What's the fewest knives that you could get away with owning?

One----RubberMaid tub full of various things, LOL. Seriously though, 3-4 would be my absolute least i would want. My modified BK9 & Gerber Metolius setup, My BK14 & my modified Ontario Machete. But i would hate to have to as well. :D

Well if I was forced to narrow them down I'd probably stick with three...
Good EDC (that would be hard to choose out of my 20 or so)
Good Fixed Blade (probably a SWRK or Busse)
Good Multitool (Some form of leatherman)

But I'd much rather have 50-100 :)

Based on my usage: kitchen knives- 7, pocket knives -6, fixed blades -8. Of course I may have to increase the count if I ran into a specific situation...

I can live with 5. Three multitools (keychain, medium, and plier-based) and two fixed blades (medium & large/machete).

I forgot to mention I have an old leather man 300 that I throw in my pack when I go shooting.
So I guess I have 4 edc knives, 2 fixed blades (maybe 3) and a multitool.
How long can I hold out? I don't know. I just bought a stock Cold Steel Master Hunter in Carbon V for $55 shipped this morning. WHY!?!?!?!?!?

One (probably my 0350), but where's the fun in that, it's nice to have options:thumbup:

If you do any kind of outdoor/woodsman activities then I would think you would have to say 3 (your version of the nesmuk trio) at least that would be my answer.

My Vic Huntsman (would also be my EDC)
My BK2
My Fiskars axe

I guess if you never planned to get outdoors or split wood or anything you could do with just 1, maybe just a good folder.

I`d need one 3"fixed blade for outdoors use, one one hand opening knife for work, one slippie for edc, and one multitool.Needless to say I have several of each category. :D

All I really need is a fixed blade for camping and a folder for EDC. Some variety is nice but honestly I could carry the same knife every day and be happy. The trouble is finding a knife that I really love.

I've never been in a situation that I would not have survived without a knife. So I guess I "need" zero. However, I would be uncomfortable without at least one good folder and one good fixed blade.

I won't tell my wife that though, she will ask me why my collection keeps growing.

I could get by with a hunting knife (3.5-4"), large blade survival knife, pocket knife and a multi tool. Those are really the only knives I use but I have multiple in each catagory to choose from. Just like guns, really only need a rifle and a pistol but I have A LOT to choose from, I like options :)

My actual goal is to reduce my number of folders to 5, plus one or two fixed blades for outdoors use. I'm almost there.
In the future I might decide to go even lower.
I don't consider myself a collector at all, so that makes it easier for me.

Just knives, i could get away with 2.
Medium fixed blade, think my Jim Bensinger Custom fixed blade.
One medium folder, My spyderco Para 2.
Including multitools, I could get away with 3 total. The above two plus a Sak.

The truth is I could likely manage with none, most people seem to be just fine without one. But having a bunch sure makes things easier.

Minimum number of knives/cutting tools?? Tough one. The funny thing is that other than the knives have changed, the number is about the same I would have answered prior to my "enlightenment" on BF.

Vic Adventurer or plain edge Trekker (SAKs)
Fallniven F1
Condor Golok machete
Axe-Gransfor's.
Spyderco Delica
GEC or Case full sized Trapper (folder)

Of course I would still need a Stihl chain saw. :)

Out of my ~30 knives, I could get away with 2 at the least. A small (2in. or less) folder, and a larger (3in. or more) folder. No real need for all of my fixed blades, the most outdoors I experience is going to my car or getting the mail.
