what's THE fixed blade?

I see Dozier fixed-blade knives get recommended a lot and for good reason: great bang for the buck. While I agree with PhiL that my preferred design is a Loveless droppoint hunter (but with micarta), this, I think is a fine example (I have his general hunter on order).

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

I have to agree with Hoodo on the Dozier. When I started to get interested in customs the Dozier Arkansas toothpick was the first one to catch my eye. Great prices to boot.

Does this knife make me look fat?

Most-often mentioned? Hmm, if I were to guess:

Large fixed blade: Busse Battle Mistress
Military-style: Kabar, Cold Steel SRK
Others: Benchmade Nimravus, Spyderco Moran

The Fallkniven knives get mentioned frequently, but there's no one Fallkniven that gets mentioned all the time. For any particular niche, up to a 7" blade, the particular Fallkniven in that niche will get mentioned. Says something good about Fallkniven, even though it drops them out of the "most popular single model" popularity contest!

Walt,
Those are some sweeet looking Maddogs. If you ever get tired of one let me know. I'll give it a good home.

For me it would be the CRK Project I
and a new favorite of mine: The Tac-11.
