What's the folder in Skyfall?

Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond, after Sean Connery, that is. One of the advantages that Craig has over all the other Bonds, though, is that he's the only one who looks like he could physically kick butt and take names.
Yes Sir, you´re right. The first, Casino Royale, was the best, fast, rough, dirty and very untypical to former JB movies. This one is different to the two before. I enjoyed that it had a "red line" going through the whole movie. The "getting older - thing". The 23th film of a 50 years old series. Seeing an James Bond getting old and grey, drunk and unfit. I really liked it.

When I saw the knife in the movie, I originally thought it looked like some type of liner-lock one-hander.
No, i don´t think so. It has had a second stop, typically for slip joint folders. That´s why i thought: "A non locking two handed folder. Very british!" Considering their knife laws. But it was a solid stop, so not that bad at all.

I personally understand why die hard bond fans like Skyfall, but it's for the same reasons i don't. it's also for the same reasons that Austin Powers movies were so successful. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, i just liked the first two daniel craig movies much better.

I thought the first two took bond to a darker and grittier place than viewers were used to for the big screen, but a place more familiar to the original books. I thought the corniness and traditional bond one liners were much more prevalent in skyfall, and in general it was laughable. Which I didn't get, and didn't miss in Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace.

As for the knife I'm also dying to know. I don't think those are spydie holes though, they look more like thumb studs to me... and for whatever reason Bond hasn't figured out yet you can open the knife with one hand. He's a gentleman i suppose.

I can't help but wonder why so many people don't like Skyfall. I hear a lot of people say that it's too unrealistic. It's a JAMES BOND FILM! I'd love to re-watch whatever Bond films they saw that were perfectly realistic.

Back to the knife: In the first picture, I thought I saw a spydie hole also. I'm pretty sure it's just light reflecting off of the handle bolster, though.

The interesting thing about the getting old thing is that Craig is 15 years younger than Pierce Brosnan, and only a couple years older now than PB was when he made his first Bond film. But some people appear much younger over time than others. Although, who knows how much of PB's more youthful look onscreen *might* have to do with cosmetic enhancements, etc.

I'm pretty sure they made Daniel Craig look older. I don't think he actually looks that old.

I didn't like the movie, It just wasn't up to par with the rest of the craig-bond movies as far as the knife goes i tried and tried to figured it out, I rewinded it 5-6 times, errr I mean watched the movie 5-6 times to try and figure out what it was and i have no idea , prolly just a prop knife custom made by a british knife maker I don't believe it's a production folder, as much as they spend to make these movies I doubt they just went and bought a knife , prooly had one made up , It does resemble a knife I saw somewhere but my mind is drawing a blank right now , If i remeber it I'll post it.

I'm with not2sharp, just an "OK" movie. Not up to par with the Bond franchise.
Kevin

If you mean it wasn't quite up to par with the Daniel Craig series, then I agree this wasn't the strongest, although I enjoyed it. If you mean the other Bond movies with flying/invisible cars, double entendres that would primarily be funny to a thirteen year old who hasn't held a girl's hand yet, and hats cutting the heads off of statues and such...well, we have different taste in movies. :D

As to the knife, I thought Mcusta when I saw it, but I wasn't prepared to look closely when it came up.

Daniel Craig is such a hypocrite, he makes millions from handling a gun yet he hates handguns.

http://www.askmen.com/celebs/entertainment-news/daniel-craig/daniel-craig-gun-fear.html

he's not a hypocrite, he's an actor. If someone land a role playing hitler they won't turn it down cause they hate hitler. there are plenty of actors who curse in movies even though they don't curse in real life, and even do sex scenes even though they are anti pornography. The profession is swarmed with gray areas and IMO it makes no difference to me if the guy is "terrified" of guns in real life, and shoots or even glorifies one in fiction. Bond is also a killer, I bet Daniel Craig hates killing in real life, that doesn't make him a hypocrite.

Anyway, would still love to know what knife he used.

Came here looksing to see if any blade experts had any idea what this knife was, I uploaded some hi-res screen grabs that may help:

I would've thought with the hi-res screenshots someone would've guessed it, looks like a nice slipjoint, with a nail nick, an anodized aluminum handle (green?) and it looks pinned? Nice looking blade at least.

Cropped the screencaps and enlarged the knife:

SkyfallKnife1.jpeg

Machined or textured edges on the upper edge of the scale. Scale/bolster comes to a point in front of the pivot.

SkyfallKnife2.jpeg

Handle has a slight curve beneath the index finger for better grip. Scale is machined for texture. Blade appears to be hollow ground, (am I seeing that right?).

SkyfallKnife3.jpeg

Drop point. Fairly slim handle and blade. No stop pin or thumbstud.

SkyfallKnife4.jpeg

Clearly visible nail nick right where the blade starts its curve for the drop point.
