What's the KNERDIEST thing you've done for knive's sake?

Alot of us in the Bali forum make videos and upload them to a site that one of our members hosts specifically for bali videos. Thats pretty nerdy :D

Great thread...

I am guilty of most of these things....as I read this. I was trying to think of an original 'knerd' moment...no luck as you are all so darn 'knerdy'...then I commited a knerdity.

I had a Noodle soup from a local noodle shop for lunch. I ended up cosuming most of the 'salty' broth. I had a break at work and decided to read the forum. I was very thirsty, but wanted to do a quick scan of the new messages before I went to get a water. Well, I started reading this thread, opening and closing my edc, meanwhile very thirsty, and could not pry myself away from my chair to walk the 20 feet to the break room where a fridge full of aquafina awaits. Believe it or not, the knerdy part is about to come.

I finally read the last post and got up to get a water...half way to the break rooom, I realize I do not have my knife, so I turn around, go back to my office and grab my knife...

In the 40 foot round trip from my office to the breakroom, what could possibley occur that would require the use of my knife...not sure, but at least I had my edc on my person!

Glad I am not alone...

I am guilty of ALOT of the abouve statements and have a few more.

1) A friend at work wanted me to sharpen her knife and I gave her a loaner to use, the only problem was she liked the loaner better.

2) My boss at work made me take the Delica off my keychain, it was making the others at work nervous due to blade cycling.

3) I was told by the same boss in #2 not to bring my shapening supplys with me any more, the noise was bothering her. I was working as a Customer Service Rep. (in front of a computer all day).

4) People think I have mange because of all of the missing patches of fur on arms (my dog disappears when I have a knife in my hand).

Made cardboard models of a couple of HI khukuris from internet pictures zoomed to life size and swung them around, trying toi imagine which one works best for me.

Good job nobody saw me (i think)...

And for the HI forum regulars, here is a ULBB (Uncle Lim Best Buy) sale: cardboard 15" BAS, 16.5" WWII, and 18" Sirupati all with plenty of "grain lines" that wont go anywhere... :)

God, it feels so good to know that you're not alone ))))

By the way, I think we should put a monument to Mtnbkr who did this:
"Giving my knife two knives since we got married two years ago."
It is a really courageous act ... it takes a real knife-addict to marry a knife )))

OK, speaking about what I did with my knife... besides opening\closing in public, not going anywhere withough my knife, I disassembled half of my car's interior )))) with my Victorinox )))... I needed to repair smth in the dashboard. When I told my friend I did that, he called me some equivalent of a "knerd" ))))) I think it is really "knerdous" to use your knife not only when it is the best tool, but also use it when a knife is the last tool a normal person would think about )))))) Besides, I am certainly guilty of many things that have already been mentioned.

- wish list

- sub-folder in computer of knives I love

- I NAMED some of my fave knives (like "Panky" or "Blue Eagle")

OH, the humanity....

In addition to having a folder on my desktop full of links to knives I'm interested in I have a folder in my IE Favorites dedicated to knife stuff, and that includes a sub-folder for links to *other* people's knife photo albums as well as threads I like here and the other forum.

The new SAK I got yesterday - was not sharp enough to satisfy me, but I took care of that within a few minutes of cutting it out of its packaging with my little CRKT F4 - and *there's* a use for the point of a knife if there ever was one.

:)

I once took my father's 25" Filipino Kris sword to cut the hedges...

The cops who were called in were impressed with the sharpness of the blade.

Teaching my 7 y.o. son and 14 y.o. daughter to flip bali's.

Having a knife in every room in the house (and in the truck).

Dying to get to work the next day after getting a new beauty, so I can show it off to my co-workers.

Giving the wife a knife for her birthday.

Wanting the kids to haye a blade of some sort on them, but worried about them at school.

I don't know if it's knerdy or not, but my son had his own machete at 5 years old. He knew how to handle one (and hand one to ya) at 3 years old. THAT used to freak people out!

Answering the "how many knives do you have on you today" question at work, and forgetting one...

Spotting pocket clips.

Suggesting knives to people who look clueless.Right before Chrismas, I suggested a Dorcy AA to a lady in Walmart looking at flashlights.

Checking out the knive case EVERY trip though Walmart just in case something/anything cool comes along.

Neat thread!

here's one. after watching "kill bill" 27 times, i carved a full sized katana out of a piece of maple. complete with cord-wrap!

Well, there is the 700MByte website with over 725 photos that I maintain. There's a server in Florida that I rent to host said website. Why? Because I want to make the information and the pictures available. It's my gift to all of you.

Spending too much time at Gun and Knife stores handling, and comparing the different knives and educating the clerks about their knives. Then to be real nerdy I will bring two or three real nice knives that I know the store does not carry so I can show them off to someone who at least pretends to care.

I spend countless hours surfing websites like Chuck's and drooling on my keyboard.

Fantastic thread, I must say... To name a few:

Flicking out knives in sheeple-saturated atmospheres: coffee shops, bible studies, parties...

Spending hours finding reviews of various knives that interest me at any given time.

Giving friends and family knives... My family's armed, and a few other nice folks have khukuris ordered through me.

Spreading out my entire Himalayan Imports khukuri collection on my bedroom floor, polishing any slightly scuffed blades, then returning them to the wall after a couple days and perhaps a bit of nagging by the mother.

Having more than enough knives (haha... )on a keychain, then still carrying two or three more larger ones...

Never showered with a knife yet... That's a good one.

I love this thread.

well i provided this thread as evidence to my GF that not only am i not alone but i am not nearly as bad as some of you yet.

I'm pretty high up there.
I ID knives in movies and on TV with non-knerds.
I have a knife (Old Time Bowie) as my background.
I have a folder of knife pictures.
I work at a knife store just for the exposure.
I have given 20% discounts to customers who want to trade in abused/broken knives for a new purchase (So that I may fix and keep it.)
I am learning to make knives.
I have, on occassion, accidentally replaced common nouns with "knife" or "knives" (Not similar words eithere. Words like "door" and "cat")
And of course, I attend and post on this forum.

Wow thank God I am not alone. I have the backround on my computer set to a knife. bladeforums is set as my homepage. I disassembled my cell phone and replaced the factory cover with pictures of knives. I will sharpen my knives constantly as well as coworkers. I am not afraid to open and use my knife in resturants, much to the dismay of my wife. I won't vacation somewhere if I can't take my knife. Finally I refuse to fly anyplace I can drive simply because I can't stand being without my knife.

Probably making knife videos and posting them on here for all to see. After reading this I'm feeling knerdy and might try to build a little portrait studio with my old studio flash units to photograph knives in. :)

Does carrying one into the shower after you've heard weird noises in the house count?
