What's the KNERDIEST thing you've done for knive's sake?

when i am minding the booth at a dog show (:grumpy: ) and my mom sends over the campus quad pattrolling guy and we start chatting. my mom points out a cargo pocket, he mentions truama shears, knife etc, i ask spydie, he says yes. he later mentions flashlight i ask surefire, he says yes.

i also have entire notebooks filled with different knife designs, with annotations. i have folders on my computer that distinguish between different kinds of knives.

also, dreaming up crazy ideas like laminated blades, with 440C for the core and titanium for the outside layers, to creat a virtually rust proof knife with good edge holding capabilities.

or what about reading through 5 pages of responses to this thread....

It's good to know that I am not alone in alot of things.

Knife background on my computer, knife logos as my msn picture, knives as gifts, use my knife to open just about anything, accessoring with an EDC and the color of clothing I wear, the knife wish list, I have a knife lying just about everywhere I go (computer, coffee table, kitchen table (not a utensil knife), bathroom, car), wearing a spyderco SPOT as jewellery, using the SOG card as my wallet, my msn/game names have been knife companies (spyderco, benchmade, nightshade series), "forgetting" a pencil sharpener so I can use a knife instead...

Sick at home over the holidays and walking around with my Ritter grip clipped to my bathrobe pocket . . . .

Planning for my upcoming trip to New Zealand and my biggest decision is what knives to take . . . .

We have given each other a great gift with this thread. It's a great feeling to know that one is not alone in one's obsession. We are a special breed for sure. As for me, I try hard not to draw attention to my knife hobby, but friends are starting to bring their knives over to my house to be sharpened. People aren't quite sure what to make of my passion for knives. They aren't sure whether to run or be intrigued. There are so many things I really need, but I spend any disposable income I have on my next knife. My wife knows more about steel and knife brands and trends than most non-knifenuts. I now dislike traveling by air because of the knife hassels. If I don't have my EDC on me I feel weird, uncomfortable. My Christmas gift every year has to be a knife. Daydreaming, planning the next knife purchase, reading, studying blade steel under magnifying glass, etc, are all enjoyable and normal for me. Like all sub-cultures there are the outsiders, the "normies", but for knifenuts like us, we are all in too deep.... and enjoying every minute of it. God Bless you all. Stay safe and Happy New Year.

I have no hair on my left arm. I test for shaving sharp after I sharpen a blade on my left arm. I have my arm sectioned off to leave time for hair regrowth. I look like i have the mange. Thats pretty nerdy i think.

1) Becoming a member at Bladeforums, Knifeforums, etc.

2) creating knife catalogs at Kinko's for my collection

That is for sure, I resisted signing up to this site for awhile (I'm fussy like that), but I am sure glad I finally did, finally I have a home. Bless you and yours, Happy New Year.

Recently I repaired a Super Nintendo controller with a Victorinox Classic...pretty nerdy.

Wow, What a thread. I am guilty of most of these except I have never taken a knife into the shower or taken one out at meetings and a few of the others. The only one not posted yet is that I keep all the knives in the house sharp. My Kids have each house sat for friends at different times over the last year. Each time they have come back saying that when they have their own house the knives will be SHARP. I point to the Spydeco Sharpmaker and say go for it. I had to put my stockman down to type this. Hmmmm.

talking to strangers showing a bit of clip... yeah, that's me.

taking them to bed and carefully laying them on my nightstand before I go to sleep... yeah, that's me.

carrying 2 to 3 at all times... yeah, that's me.

"playing" with knives in public without thinking about it... yeah, that's me.

i often stop stangers showing clips too...
i spend hours on this forum, every day....
i almost cried of joy when i got my sebbie...
i cry everytime i look at the credit card bill....
buying my wife jewelry to make myself feel better for buying an expensive knife......
my edc knife costs twice my gun.
paying ups fast shipping because i cannot wait to get the package...

i forgot....

talking a picture of the cat sleeping with her paws over a sheathed SOG because they look cute together.

When getting ready for a night out begins with touching up the edges of any knives I will be carrying with me (usually 3) and sometimes a few I won't be carrying. I usually get a shower and shave in to, but not before the knives are taken care of.

I just printed this thread to show my wife that I'm not that bad, or at least that I have lots of company in my weirdness.

My knerdiness started at an early age. My favorite activity when I was a kid wast to work out trades with the neighborhood kids. They always wanted the crappy United knives I got as presents, and would trade me nice vintage slipjoints they pilfered form their dads. Still have a Boker, a Case, and a Remington I got that way.
