whats the logic of having a 100-200$ knife for edc and defense?

I carry both, and I carry the one that has the quality aspects that are suitable for the circumstance. For defense, this means 100% reliable. In my opinion, that means either a quality revolver or a Glock. I have found that in order to get a quality knife that I can count on for all of the reasons that I carry one, I need to spend more than $100. I owns knives that I EDC that cost more that $400, but that is only because I enjoy the additional quality, design, fit and finish of the examples that I own.

I boils down to you get what you pay for, I live in a state where you can get a CCW permit, the gun is for SD, not a tool, the knife at prices well over your $100-$200 is a tool and again you get what you pay for so if your gonna rely on your knife as a backup LD defensive weapon of research my choices and pick the best FB I could find in my price range and save a little longer and buy the next better model. JMHO.

I know bringing a knife to a gun fight is bad news but you have what you have. Cheap guns don't fire sometimes, and people miss. Even police miss sometimes.

Thankfully I have about a .00002 percent chance of being in a situation like that, unless I become an actor!

because when they can buy $200 knife it means they can also afford more than just a $300 entry level pistol for self defense. It's what they call personal prefrence. If you are not willing to spend high dollar on tools you don't like, then don't. If I have to spend $500 on a tool, I'd much rather to buy a knife than a hand gun. To me, I find a knife 100 times more useful than a gun. Would you open envelop, boxes, cut steak with a gun? Or will you fondle a gun while waiting for a train, a bus in front of 100 people? I'm afraid not. BTW, even for self defense, you would'nt just carry a gun. Get a knife with you! it's gonna be a great backup tool

This guy has four posts, all thread starters with no follow-up responses to questions. He's asked about Karambits and Emersons so his tastes don't run quite so cheap as this thread implies.

Either a kid or a troll (or both).

To the trolling kid, like StinkyTool so eloquently states, and I am paraphrasing here, handguns suck at slicing cheese. But I cannot think of a more fun way to try to slice cheese than shooting it with a handgun. I think I will try to fell a dead tree tonight with my M4 and split it up for the fire, that sounds like a hoot as well. Ammo supplies are back to almost normal, so this might be a fun way to spend $500 or more in ammo.

Same reason I carry an expensive knife.

1) Because I can

2) Because the handgun I want to carry costs more than that

There really aren't any other reasons needed.

^ Awesome!

At this point I have so many knives I'll never wear out the users in my collection let alone get into using the LNIB/NIB stuff I've got...

At these ain't cheap knives either that I'm talking about.

So, maybe I'm the one that's nutty and not the O.P.;):D

Where I live it's really really hard for a regular citizen to get a permit to carry and there is no open carry here. Only way to get a permit to carry is if you have a legit reason on why your life would be in danger on a regular basis. Example, cop.

lots of 'income inequality' posts lately. If you can't afford a higher priced offering, then just buy one that costs less. No need to attack those that want to spend their hard earned money on toys and tools that don't fit YOUR budget.
But that's not fair! I deserve to carry a knife just as nice as yours!

99% of the knife enthusiasts don't carry a knife for self defense. As for the dollar amount goes those that can afford nice things buy what makes them happy.

If you had the money would you buy a bottom of the scale $250 gun or a top of the line $2500 gun?

EDC isn't self defense.

And trust me, if I can afford to carry a $200 knife for EDC, I can afford a handgun to carry at the same time... and something much nicer than one that costs $300...

Way to get your first posts off to a bang, though. We love judgmental people around here.

I agree.

Exactly. Cheap guns are about as worthless as a knife for self defense IMO.

I agree with this too. I can afford to carry a 500 dollar knife but choose to carry a 25 dollar knife. No one says you NEED a high end knife to get the job done.

To be fair, in a life or death situation, I would rather have a knife on me than nothing at all.

I agree. My point was more of the fact that cheap guns tend to be jamomatics and aren't always superior to knives. If nothing comes out of the barrel then you just have a metal club. ;)

I could buy a gun for 300$ dollars and still be better for defense ...
Knife<gun

I don't have many $300 handguns, but I guess it's possible. We all seem to acquire what we like whether it costs $1 or $1000. I don't carry a knife for self defense. Never have. Never will.

As far as EDC goes, I can't open a package or slice an apple with a gun. If worried about self-defense, I carry a knife AND a gun - knife for daily use and gun for defense. YMMV. ;)

Haha yeah, I totally get what you're saying now :)
