What's the most carried blade among "Operators"?

I carry either a Buck Mayo Cutback, a Kershaw Leek, or an Emerson Endevor.

But Im only a fry cook...... or am I?......... :D

Either sharp steel just isn't as important as it once was, or it's not as appreciated as it once was. I've got 20+ months in bad places, and have yet to sharpen a large fixed blade overseas from having used it that much. Guys see this and say that big knives aren't necessary anymore.

Might this be because most if not all recent US foreign military adventures have been in the Middle East? Seems to me that knives might not be quite as downright constantly essential in the desert as they are in more temperate climes?

I just sold a hornet xl and a Hornet combat fighter to some cia agents on there way abroad?????

That's crazy talk! :D ,and exactly the attitude I and others here are trying to correct. My not needing to sharpen my big knives just means that I wasn't working real hard. Combat troops all over that region are using their big knives every day. My point is that you carry it for the same reason you carry water and ammo: you may need them, and in that moment there are very rarely available substitutes. I've used my big knives everywhere I've been, and several times in dire straits.

If it's a service man/woman...Most likely a Spyderco in Zytel. Something inexpensive, cause they pay for it. If it's a civilian contractor, (like me!) something more expensive like a microtech or a MOD.

Lately for me...My trusty REKAT Pioneer II in Tanto & ATS34. SWEET sharp and strong.

Dude I am only an E-5 and I carry a Strider AR. We don't all carry cheap stuff. ;)

Here in Afghanistan I see,

French Foreign Legion Officers with COLD STEEL, but he wanted a Randall

all Gurkhas with Kukri's from Nepal

Royal British Marine Commandos all with Gerber tools and a few carrying Gerber knives.

This is what I see here! Nothing fancy, just good solid knives.

Getting ready to head to the sandbox myself. I will definantly be taking a few multis, my RAT 3, and my model 1 folder. Probably a few other folders in my bag for just in case I lose or break my RATs (not likely). I have been considering buying a Cold Steel Safekeeper 2 for last ditch weapon. JMHO

P.S. I am not an Operator..... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express

Amusing topic with a lot less bs than expected. As others have said, most soldiers don't know much about knives, regardless of how "elite" they are. "No man this company says this blade is made of titanium so it has to be good!"

I carry an Emerson CQC-11 for the occasional unruly bit of 550. Lately I'm carrying my SOG Powerlock for those pesky little screws on laptops. I could probably accomplish the same cutting with a Gerber as I do with my Emerson, but I like good knives and it interests me more than collecting stamps or art.

The most common knife brands I see other soldiers carrying are Benchmade, followed by Gerber. Personally, I think Benchmades are ugly and don't really like auto knives. Most soldiers go with what's available though. Also, some of the Jumpmasters insist on having a Jumpmaster knife strapped to their calf, but it's pointless and if you ever took it upon yourself to cut your risers to escape a tree, you'd have some very pissed off riggers.

Lately I've been trying to impart some knowledge on friends of mine. I've managed to get them salivating over some Busse's. Even so, we'll never use them while on deployment and it wouldn't surprise me if we were told not to carry a fixed blade. Those of us who loves knives will keep buying the good stuff and those who aren't interested will have nothing or some $20 PX knife. It's really no different from the civilian world.

Listen here yo-yos,
The only folks that really carry fancy knives in this community are the knife nuts. The knive nuts tend to like microtech folders and some of the old diehards tend to like Randall and EK. Kabars are standard and the mini-sword idiots are usually the very young and inexperienced. Speaking of which I'm looking for a Microtech LUDT, non-serrated. Anyone looking to sell?

the first thing my dad asked me when I started commercial fishing was "you got a knife?" i said yeah. (I should have said no, then suckered him into buying me one:rolleyes: ) he said is it a good one? My life is in Buck and Frosts of sweden"s hands

I carried a Buck 110 as an Army Paratrooper. It was the only tactical folder at the time. But now I have a more high speed job. I'm now a Special Operations, Long Range Recon, UDT Dad. I make many patrols into McDonalds territory with "The Boys". I use a Benchmade or Victorinox for such tasks as cutting open Yu-gi-o packs, Star Wars Action figure Clam Packs, or that dreaded plastic that comes on the GameCube discs. It doesn't get any more "Special" than this.;)

I read somewhere in a knife magazine (forgot which one) that the preferred knife of choice of a former Navy SEAL was a simple SAK, because he could use the scissors to open up MREs without leaking any juices.

I read that same article, i cant remember where either though.

I have no idea what 'Operators' carry.

However, I have a friend who was a field radio operator in the Marines, and carried this model Ka-Bar:
