Whats the purpose of having several Beckers

I see some people with a multitude of different Beckers, other than size and blade differences what is the point other than from a I gotta have em all perspective. I am new to knives and I'm just wondering what the different uses are for the different lengths? I would thing a medium sized knife would be sufficient for almost everything? By no means am I trying to start a war here just trying to get a little education and to justify why I need to purchase different sized knives. I have the 15 on order and was told to also order the 5 while I can.

Thanks

I have multiple knives of the same model simply because I can and because I want to, no other reason. :D

Examples

BK9 - chopping and splitting wood
BK15 - my steak knife
BK5 - my large meat joint carving knife
BK16 - camp knife, bushcraft.
BK7- defensive knife
BK3 - emergency vehicle tool
BK24 - my woodwork whittling, feathersticking blade.

So on and so forth

Yes they will all possibly do the same but some will perform particular tasks better than others. Variety is the spice of life they say, it's just nice to have a knife for all occasions.

And yes there is that factor of "because I can". Sounds terrible I know. I own them all and am very glad I do and thank the man upstairs ( and my wife) that I'm fortunate enough too.

Variety. It'll take me years, but I plan on trying to get ahold of as many Beckers as I can.

Gotta have a chopper for having fun in the woods, a medium one for EDC and any tasks that the chopper may be a bit too large for, and a small one for really easy EDC and really fine tasks.

Thing is, there are quite a few good choppers, one day you might be in a BK9 mood, one day you might want a Machax, maybe you're trying to save space? BK2, BK10, or BK7 is what you'll be grabbing. Of course, the 2, 10, or 7 aren't the greatest at any one specific thing, but they are smaller than the 9 or 'Chax, and that matters to a lot of people.

There are 3 different tweeners (and a couple full sizes that may be considered "medium.") Of course just like the full sizes, each one is somewhat similar, but they all perform a bit differently, maybe you want the 15's blade length and choil, maybe you're trying to just take one knife and the 16 is what you pick since it's so practical, maybe you pick a BK10 for the full size handle, want something a bit smaller than the 10 but similar? Snatch a BK17.

Then there are the smalls, they all have the same blade shape (the 13 is a bit smaller, but same blade shape), but again, each is different. Want something tiny? The 13. Gonna have some root beer? Take the 11. Want an 11 with no bottle opener and a more comfy handle? 14. Want a 14 with (semi)stainless (D2) steel? Get a 24.

Hope that long winded rant helped. ;) :D

lol so it is justified Thanks for the replies I now understand so I will start with the 5 and the 15 and go from there.

You don't need them all what you are going to here mostly is excuses, I don't really have a legitimate reason for having so many folders other than I like them.

BK9 when traveling through the woods and making my own path or clearing an old path.
BK24 piggyback on my BK9 for light work.
BK15 for hiking and I want a blade with a decent length but lightweight.
BK2 when hunting because It's smaller but heavy duty.

My other BK's are just because I can, America, f**k yeah!

Love it, I have a room full of guns its a horrible addiction!

Exactly.
Good production knives are an inexpensive, lightly regulated luxury with only modest storage and maintenance requirements. Buy the ones you like, in addition to the ones you need. :-)

A good medium-sized outdoor knife IS all you NEED, but there are so many wonderful blades to appreciate!

If there is a single knife, of any brand, that "does it all", I haven't found it. We have/prefer different knives for different tasks.
But, really.....why have so many? I blame the members of this subforum. And my own underlying obsessive defect, of course. It's easy to get caught up in collecting knives - after all, why just have 1 when you can have 2? 3 when you can have 4? Becker knives are a great value, which helps, because the next one doesn't hurt the wallet much. At some point, the question changes...it is no longer why, but why not? If there is no compelling reason not to buy that next knife, it's easier to just do it.

My initial reaction to your first post - why is a gun-guy asking such a silly question?! ;)

As usual, it starts as a need for one, then a want for another, then an addiction ... for them all!

They keep my house weighted in case of high winds.

They add weight to my EDC bag to give me a better workout as I carry it with me everywhere.

Beckers are like cheese. They are all made from milk but each one has its own flavor. Plus I may have a problem.

Because Beckers make us
