What's the purpose of notches spaced all along a blade ?

I do mean NOTCHES and not serrations . Notches like you'd make by taking a chainsaw file straight across the edge about 1/2 the file diameter .

These notches would tend to catch, grab and trap rather than cut . It would tear rather than slice paper .

I'm just curious . I've used cutting wheels with notches , but never a knife .

Are you talking about this? The thread title suggests something I've never seen so forgive me if I'm completely off topic.

Not my pics. They are from another member's @knoefz instructional post in this thread. https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/what-to-use-to-cut-a-sharpening-choil.1107079/

The only thing I can think of would be your Common 3-4 mico groove serrations.
They've got a tooth with 3-4 micro grooves on it, then a sharpened notch, then another micro grooved tooth, and so on .
Kind of like this

I believe they are intended to indicate the number of foes who have been vanquished in battle by the afore mentioned blade.

Not my pics. If they are yours and would like them removed from this post, just let me know.
Kind of like that but all along the whole cutting edge , every 1/2 inch or so .

Thanks but not like that . Not any kind of serration .

:) A mighty " Blade of Legend "! Only a really dense warrior would notch the cutting edge . Maybe the handle or spine ?

Silverds, That sword handles so easily ,is it made of Ti . Is it a Mecha blade?

Only thing I could think as to why they'd do that is it's designed to be used against people? The notches would rip rather than slice which would probably cause more pain and perhaps take the fight out of whoever it is youre mangling?

But that's dumb as hell. Better to just mace em.

Click on the pic to see enlarged . I saw a video of a reviewer trying to cut paper .

The knife only sliced cleanly until reaching a notch , then just tore up the paper .

Supposedly a custom design from Sean Kendrick , but for what ? To rip and tear rather than slice ?

A couple of companies offered similar years ago, it was an attempt to offer a serration pattern that could be sharpened with a regular stone. But those showed some sharpening to the notches, this one doesn't. Perhaps it could tear like you mentioned, but it looks like nothing but trouble.

I could see rope or anything fibrous getting caught up something awful, perhaps even enough to lock up the knife.

Just a different kind of serrations, than the ones most often seen but serrations none the less.

Blurb from above maker;

"a new knife but one with a part serrated blade instead of the original plain edge"

That is made to appeal to people who like "cool" and "different" looking knives. They don't realize its not good for much until the try to actually use it. (If that ever happens).

Bad Blood should name this one "Bad Blade"!:p

I saw that as well, I can't see a practical use for it. It would be a decent hawkbill folder if it didn't have those "notches". One Bad Blood I will not buy, that and the fixed blade version with the same type blade.
