I used to prefer a pocket knife in the 4"+ range. Big blade, work hard, long reach. Lately, I've found that I honestly don't need so much and the smaller knives ride in the pocket a little better. Just something about those smaller knives has been calling me.

That doesn't mean I've given up on my Case 6375, but I'm gravitating to knives of smaller size. A peanut is really just fine and 3.5 inches seems like a big knife these days.

So, what do you think? Anyone change their mind over the years? Don't forget to vote!

For me it would have to be 3 5/8". A little bigger than a 3 1/2".....little smaller than 3 3/4".

For most of my tasks 3.25" is more than enough and rides unnoticed in my smaller pockets.

3.5" close for me is absolutely perfect. Single blade preferably to keep it slim and it rides in my pocket almost unnoticed but it's big enough for any normal cutting tasks I run into. GEC #15 is getting the job done right now.

Pocket knife means they need to ride comfortably in the pocket, so I found out that 3.25" to 3 5/8" are the better size for me, and 3.5" is the best.

Anything from 2-1/2" to 3-1/2" works for me.

My favorite knife right now is 3" so I voted 2-7/8".

OP, we have a lot in common.

My hand prefers a 4 inch handle as they are large but for pocket carry I am finding that 3 5/8 is a good balance between what my hand wants and what my pocket wants. Carrying a larger folder in jeans isn't a huge problem but I rarely need the cutting power of my full size Sodbuster or trapper for EDC stuff. I was using a slimline trapper and I dig it but I'm about to rekindle my love affair with my sodbuster jr. I have considered ordering the GEC Bullnose but that feels like i'm cheating on Case. I don't know if I'm willing to do that...

3 1/2" to 3 3/4" is pretty much the sweet spot for me. #85 at the large end, #66 at the shorter. I do carry either a Peanut or a Pemberton also...so I like shorties as well :p I'm a urban/suburban guy...as such I have not seen a lot of need for a 4"+ knife for EDC.

I voted for 3 1/4. As much as I love my peanut, it's at least 50% because of my old man and my memories of him that I carry one. If I have to admit it, two of my favorite pocket knives were in the 3 1/4 range. The Buck 303 cadet, and the Victorinox bantam and recruit. JUst the right size for a easy carry pocket knife.

If anything can be inferred from my own habit of pocketing a ~4" stockman every single day, I'd say that's pretty close to ideal for me. I like the full control over a handle that can be gripped comfortably in 4 fingers' width. Anything in the 3.75" - 4.25" ballpark will generally do for my primary carry, and other smaller knives often ride along as secondary choices.

I like 3 1/2 best, although I have some up to 3 7/8 that I carry often. I'm always in jeans so that makes a difference.

I like 3 1/2" to 3 7/8" range. I lean to 3.5" as ideal, but I have up to 3 7/8" and like them. Of course a Pemberton or Peanut has it's place for sure and is often my "#2" in the watch pocket.

I voted 4" because of my powderhorn, which gets the most use these days. Of course the shape of that one makes it seem to carry smaller than it's length would imply...
