Ha, ha
You are going to hate me for saying this but.
Other than for food prep I think this little gold colored "box" knife / utility knife is about all most people need for cutting strings, opening packages, sharpening a pencil . . . heck you could even cut the bad end off a garden hose with it before putting on a new connector. (do people still do that or am I one of the last ?). Put a little oil on the hose and or the blade and it would cut right around.
I carry the nice full size dudes like the trapper but is it a must ? Usually not.
I've had it and carried it off and on over the years. Until I got my Spyderco Cricket it was my go to for those tough plastic packages because the blade is so thin and it doesn't cut very deep if you hold it right.

Esee Izula 2 and Victorinox Huntsman. My most used EDC combo. Between the two, I generally have all my uses covered.

Definitely the Victorinox Classic SD:

I have several of them (one in work bag, one in shaving bag, one in backpack, one or two to throw in a coin pocket, one in the bathroom, etc.) and use them pretty much every day.
+1 to all of this!

My Vaquero Ultralite. Carried this daily in a crossdraw horizontal sheath for over 3 years now. Shown at the ranch on my partner's "cow" book. Knife is 5.25" overall. It handles everything that needs handling from opening a grain sack or a bale of hay, to cutting a calf, or opening packages of supplies in the shop.
Thanks Hickory n steel. I've been very happy with it since I made it. Heat treat is at 60 RC btw.
Spyderco Bug. It has opened thousands of boxes/envelopes.
