What's the story with the 757 Vicar?

Nice to get the real scoop, thanks guys. As I said before, I actually like the new blade better, but the handle scales are not quite doing it for me. I like an easily adjustable pivot, and why not have it drilled and tapped for lefty carry, or for that matter four way carry. Overall looks like a winner though. I would like to see a close up of the liner thickness.

I like the new blade also but have to say I was very excited, or looking forward to getting the original Salvo design.

When a high end custom, especially from a great maker like Sibert who's designs I particularly like gets picked up by a manufacture like Benchmade for release at a more "affordable" price point it's always exciting and I was really looking forward to getting one. For months now actually.

Changing the design without any notice threw me for a real loop as I've posted but finding out the reason I get it. Not going to cancel my pre-order and am looking forward to the new knife. It' still a Sibert all the way and If the spec's posted are still the case then it's still all kind's of awesome, just in a different way...

So then in a nutshell, a recurve tanto style was not possible? Got it. ;)
For what it's worth, I could not have cared at all if my knife was different from that of pbcg or jazub, really. We could have compared notes and had a blast.

As posted on their forum on New Year's Eve:

I guess their website and Ad/Media QC is run by the same dept. as their knife QC. Somebody is really falling down on the job here. I'm a huge Benchmade fan, but this company seems to slowly move further and further away from the company I once knew and loved.

I agree, if losing customers is their goal they've been doing an exellent job the last two years.

.90" thick liner lock? Seriously, the liners are almost 1" thick? They must have meant .090".

Edit: Especially if the handle thickness is .66".

The description on the products page of their website say's .090 That's definitely a typo up there.

Shouldn't they be able to learn if they could mass-produce a blade grind before they announce the model to the public? It seems like someone at Benchmade dropped the ball on this one.

Derrick has these up on KSF along with some good pics. Looks much better in his pics than I've seen previously. The blade shape is nice and they really weren't kidding when they said thick liners.

Thanks for the heads up. Now just waiting for my pre-order to come in. At least we know there starting to be released.

And I agree, looks much better then the other pictures we've seen so far. Looking forward to finally having one in hand.

I wanted this knife when they first posted pics of it months ago. What a unique production blade. It was going to be a must buy for me.

Now at the last minute, they say they can't produce it.
Really? Seriously?

They tempt me with the first folder that I 've wanted in some time, and then they bail?

Thanks Benchmade.

They used to be one of my favorite companies.
Not anymore.

Next time they preview something I might want, I won't even bother.

Goodbye Benchmade.

Wow, melodramatic much? They only changed a blade grind, they didn't murder your family. Geez.

They only changed the blade grind?

That is the point.

It's just another folder now.

Get out much?

It's still not just another folder. It's a unique grind still, a unique one from Sibert no less. The other grind would have been cool and all, but would have been an absolute pain to sharpen.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do a Gold-class version of the Vicar with the recurve tanto grind.

I just don't get stomping feet and disowning companies because they decided it would be easier and save a few bucks to change the blade grind. Companies change stuff all the time. Why do you think the disclaimer "subject to change without notice" exists?

It's a pretty cool grind. It looks like it just has a deep belly, but in person you can see the minute aspects of the grind that make it a robust slicing / pierce knife. I prefer this shape of the extreme shape of the original Sibert, this one will be way more practical for the end use to sharpen, too. The titanium liner lock is really, really smooth, but not as much as the opening, I think - it's like glass.

Like I said before, I like the newer version better and would not have bought it as it was (may still not buy it). I like almost everything about it now, except that the pocket-clip cant be switched over. Although a liner-lock, the design looks like it could be used with either hand easily, why not offer the option of moving the clip over?
