What's the story with the 757 Vicar?

I liked the original design because it was different but I do like this one more. It is still fairly unique and looks pretty robust. And I do like the fact that you could quite easily change the look with those stacked handles. I don't know if anyone else noticed but if you zoom in on a pic of the back of the knife, it almost looks like it has the same rotating style pin as the 755 or 761 that allows you to change the lock up. Not sure about this but it does look very similar.

My wife says; "maybe their customers aren't important any more..." regarding this and other offerings. She's supported me in my knife hobby for many years and said she likes the 485 'Valet' but passes on the rest.

Oh, please. Have you checked out any of the new Gold Class knives Benchmade has been putting out? Or the 761? They're producing great products. Sorry you don't like them all, but to say that they don't think their customers are important anymore is ludicrous.

Rare that I lend an opine about something like what was said above. And remember it's just my thoughts in print. I've been at this for years and always looked forward to the new catalog offerings every spring. What I see now, and what I saw last year (my single model from last year in the $$ department was a Volli...) doesn't/and didn't excite except for the upcoming 485. The 761 is nice, but too pricey. And for the Gold Class models, I've never owned one.

For me as a consumer and still a Benchmade fan, it's the lack of communication about changes. (Like the Vicar for example), that leave me in doubt. I still think their customer service and warranty repair are tops in the production knife business, but there's always the worry that any product I buy with my hard earned dollars won't come home without having to go back for yet another fine-tuning. That should have never become a common issue for so many of us. It makes the experience less than as a hopefully valued customer.

Thanks for the kudos on the pics. Here are a few more pics.

Looks great in those pics. I like the gold tint to the Ti. I never noticed that before in other pictures.

Ordered my Vicar from KSF and it's already on it's way. Can't wait. I'm hoping that the green scales come right off and I could have new scales made in place.

Customers quit being important to BM shortly after the wars started and they got gov. contracts. That was the year of the Rukus, one of the last great BM offerings.
After that, they didn't offer anything really fun or interesting for years.

The 755MPR was great too. The 757 would have been great without the plain, common, boring tanto.

As far as "hard to sharpen" goes, if someone doesn't know how to sharpen a compound blade, maybe it's time to learn how. Or, start buying wharncliffs, they're easy. Or, use Benchmade LifeSharp service.
Or ask a friend. Or start a new hobby that's more suited to their abilities.

Sheesh, a twelve year old with a little practice and skill could sharpen the Vicars compound on a Spyderco Sharpmaker in 10 minutes.

If offered both, I seriously doubt many buyers would have opted for the tanto over the compound. Admit it, or not, this knife is, (was?) about looks.

It looked mean. Now it looks pretty common.

The recurve would have counted as a serration under Benchmade's LifeSharp, meaning they wouldn't have sharpened it.

Oh Boo-hoo.....

Get some cheese for the whine and buy a custom if it bugs you that much. I'm not a superfan of benchmade but I think they do a decent job producing a usable knife, not to mention they have lots of good designs to choose from. As most knife companies do. So if you want to complain about not getting something unique enough just save us the trouble and get a custom.

Also, while the sharpmaker is easy to use I don't know many children sharpening knives on them or know many that sharpen compound grinds but it's hard for me down here without my high horse to sit on.

You know, it might be advantageous of Benchmade to drive customers like you away, bearcut. People like you are unreasonable.

You're not that important that Benchmade personally owes you the knife you bought in your heart before it was available.

Shoot, you'd probably complain that it was 'too expensive' even if they made the original version

How anyone can say that Benchmade's customers aren't important to them is beyond me!
I have said in this thread that they fall short in their interaction with the fans, but I have used Benchmade's life sharp /warranty service on several occasions and have always been made to feel as if I were a priority, and evidently more than one person called Benchmade and spoke to a real person who was glad to explain the reason for the change.
Some of you people need to take a pill.

I'd be stoked to be able to get a custom with the tanto grind. :D
I really like this knife, although not many did like the original idea. Benchmade does a really good job on liner locks and frame locks. I have an 8 year old Nitrous Stryker that is as tight as a snare drum and it's been used a lot at work and home. I may break down and buy one of these, nothing on the knife that would make me run screaming.

They might have missed the memo too, As far as anyone can tell it "just changed", no rhyme or reason. I do like the tanto blade shape on this one, or did. This thing looks like an after thought "Plan B" of sorts, and it just might have been.

Benchmade is the worst when it comes to announcing an inline change. They did the same thing with the clip on the 755. Even dealer's didn't know about the change until they started receiving phone calls from pissed off customers.

I love the look of the new 757 and prefer it to the funky one. This one went from :barf: to :D in hurry. Good job Benchmade.

I *really* like the looks of this design. I also understand the concern about left hand clips.

I'll make someone an offer. If someone would like, I'll make you a sheath free of charge as long as you cover shipping. That way I can see the knife in person and you can get it on your left hip. Shoot me a pm if interested. First person gets the deal. :)
