Whats the Stupidest thing someone has ever done to/with your knife?

I a releated note I had my very good friend put a 10mm hole in the star on our Xmas tree 2 years ago. On top of me being pissed about the ND (negligent discharge) IN MY HOUSE I was also somewhat upset cause it was my brand new G29 I hadn't even shot once myself yet, needless to say the only time he's asked to hold another gun of mine was when at the range with the barrel pointed in a safe direction.

We still use that same star!

Not to lecture you, and I am sure you know this now but you are never supposed to hand anyone a loaded gun period. There is no excuse for NDs, they make everyone involved look bad, injured or dead. You should have handed him the gun only after you cleared it, then he should have checked for himself. And if your friend was new into guns you should have taught him this safety procedure as someone should have showed you so this never happens again.

one of my workers needed to open a box so i handed him my damascus skyline. i handed it to him open and as soon as he had it in his hands he did a 180 and threw it like a ninja star at the wall in hopes of it sticking. i squealed as i picked up the blade, now in pieces. i haven't let anyone borrow my knives since then

I was on EMS call where a man was injuried while putting in an inground pool. The ground was lined with plastic because it rained the night before basically turning it into a slip and side. We needed to cut the plastic so we could get down to him. So I handed my partner my BM Triage and the next thing I know it's handle deep in the soil.

After reading everyone's horror stories, I don't think I'll be lending anyone my knives without knowing what they are going to be using them for... And then watching them closely!

Fred

Showed a friend my Native 5. He proceeded to stab it at my crotch.
Bought a Kershaw Chive. Second day my friend used it to scribe-cut a 5 foot wide aluminum sheet with plywood as a cutting board. There goes my nice sharp tip.

My buddies and I were around a campfire, swapping stories and fooling around. I handed one of my friends a cheapo-Metch fixed blade and promptly forgot about it. Next morning, I couldn't find the fixed blade; I planned on using it as a beater on a landscaping job. I looked around the previous night's campfire, and wouldn't you know it, during the course of our night's revelry my buddy had managed to drop it directly in the fire. All that was left was the charred metal. The rubber handle was gone...turns out we'd been inhaling rubberized smoke for half the night :D

The absolute dumbest thing I have ever seen anyone do with a knife occured on the night of my high school graduation: a guy who had just graduated was having a great time, chugging Mountain Dews, chatting up girls, and celebrating like it was the end of the world. Suddenly, an older guy with behavioral issues decided to jump the celebrating guy just for the heckuva it...in the ensuing testosterone-fuled scuffle, the dude with the behavioral issues got a cheap lockback folder popped into his leg, which quickly ended the fight. The two dudes later settled their differences, but it was still a dangerous and dumb move on both the kids' parts. Thankfully, the issue has been dropped forever, and the two guys are actually in-laws now after their older siblings got married.

Now, you might be asking, "How does that apply to the whole 'stupidest thing done with YOUR knife' query of the post?" Well, let's just say I was there...

...and I wasn't the one with the knife in my leg.

haha, very amusing thread! I stopped lending my nice knives out a while back. I just got sick of people saying things like " this thing is no good, where are the serrations" and "is it sharp". I carry traditional pocket knives and people are often freaked out by half stops and don't know how to handle traditionals in general, i've seen several friends cut themselves just opening the dang thing. I usually carry a small easy open slipjoint like a buck 379 or similar to lend.

I did once pull my knife out at the same time as a guy at work (I was carrying a RAZOR sharp zdp endura4) and he had a beat up gerber gator and he said " you go ahead, I like to keep my knives dull and dirty so if I cut someone the wound gets infected". I almost hit the ceiling telling this guy what a douche bag he was and that he should neither procreate or carry a knife.

That's all I got for knife stupidity. I wish I worked with knife guys like you fellas.......

Of course this isn't disagreeing with anythin you've said but...

I didnt hand him a loaded gun, and I also didnt hand him the mag. I (as many people are) was literally raised with guns, I got a BB gun at 4 to start learning safety, had "my own" .22lr mossberg at 6, started shooting center fire and .22lr handguns at 10, and so on. I also train continously, I hunt yearly and have had a valid CCP since the month I turned of age (6 years ago now) so I've had multiple basic-safety reCert's. My wife and I also compete if several kinds of matched and attend advanced shooter drills and competitions. We've also both had (seperately so we don't distract each other) more advanced/in-depth home defense courses.

Like every time ever (except in the few SD/HD situations we've been in when guns were exchanged between my wife and I mid emergency) before a gun is handed off it is cleared and locked open. I know, I remember very well, that the gun was clear, no mag and slide locked open. I have no clue why he put a LOADED MAG in a gun he was "playing with" (aka responsibly inspecting). I was standing right next to him yet I had no reason not to trust him and its not like I was monitoring what he was doing. Is it my fault in the end, absolutely, it was my weapon and I should have been more responsible for it, but the problem wasnt I handed someone a loaded gun. I was carrying, I took I out of my holster, cleared it, set the mag down and handed it to him on an open slide.

I was out camping with friends and one asks to see my fixed blade I made myself modeled after a Gerber drop point. He proceeds to use it to baton through a 3inch log instead of using the hatchet, and we had plenty of smaller pieces already. Didn't damage the knife but it did make me a little angry at myself for handing it over at all.

So where'd he get the loaded mag from?

I was at work breaking down some boxes, and a nearby coworker wanted me to check a job he did. The job involved putting 40 grit sandpaper tape on metal aircraft steps. I checked his work , and saw big air bubbles in the tape, so I said hold on ill grab you a razor blade. I came back a few minutes later, and he had grabbed my new zt0561 and was sawing through the tape on the metal. A "Holy Shit" moment came over me, and I went off on him. Turns out in his mind its ok to just grab stuff, and a knife is for cutting so he cut with it. I also told him he should buy a Ferrari and go off roading with it because its a car right. He understands now, and we are friends, but we sure were not that day :p

That's hilarious. .. my cousin also put a nice clean 45 sized hole through one of our fridge magnets with a gold cup race gun. I was sitting watching him gently squeeze the trigger and the next thing. .. bang and smoke though the kitchen...lol. He pulled the slide back, checked nothing in the chamber, due to the big red dot fitted, couldn't see nicely into the mag well area, and presumed all was safe...

Perfect shot. .

Being a range officer I've seen my share of race guns. None of them have their red dot sights blocking the ejection port. There's no excuse for a negligent discharge except negligence.

I was bragging to a coworker about how sharp my knife was - that you could shave with it. So he proceeds to try to shave his arm with it. The problem is it was a combo blade, and he gave himself several gouges on his arm from the serrations.

;) always actually using their knives and such! Those fools!

Clearly my sarcasm was lost through the internet...

I own neither. I have four knives and use them all. I've just heard enough sebenza people cry about a scratch on their frame and enough strider people brag about whatever ridiculous non knife related tasks that theyve done with their sng.

Repeatedly stuck the blade of my knife into the ground all the way up to the hilt instead of putting the knife back into its sheath. And he was a Boy Scout.

So where'd he get the loaded mag from?

He picked one up, at that time we had 4 loaded mags sitting stragitically throughout the house (now we have 9, we also have 4 30rnd USGI mags for the AR sitting out). The mag (and the chambered round) I removed were in my pocket, I DID NOT hand it to him. 1 of those mags was stored in the top drawer of the desk he was sitting at, so obviously he picked it up not thinking. I'm not saying it wasn't in the end my fault, again it was my gun, in my house, and in the end I was responsible, but I don't need a lecture from you. Thanks.

Apparently you do need a lecture if anybody can load your gun with your mag AND fire your gun in your house. ;)

Its your gear, you're responsible.
