What's with CRKT? Attractive knives, poor quality materials?

crkt must have one of the most amazing archives of awesome knife designs, if only one day they could decide to put some of those out with real materials

Yup. And what does a retailer need to do here to sell?

Making a comparison between one sort of profitable activity and another does not make the first one into the other. He isn't a retailer. No one who sells here has to sell at a loss to fulfill your ideals of private knife sales.

Okay, I'll explain. Everyday we buy things from retail businesses that buy low and sell high. So if selling for a profit is an evil activity, then who are you buying groceries from?

But selling at a profit doesn't make you a retailer. I made money when I sold my house, yet I am not a retailer.

Or evil.

Members ought to be able to sell their stuff without other members undermining them.

Did you buy three houses and flip them?

Thanks for the plug. I bought three when they were first released. If you are interested in the one I have for sale make an offer.

DEALER / MATERIALS PROVIDER - Dealers are defined as anyone who purchases at wholesale pricing, or purchases items with the intent to resell (flipping).

For lack of a better term, I have outgrown CRKT. I guess my taste have changed over time. I now find most of their products a little over the top. To much bling just for the sake of bling. Just my opinion. They still do make some things I like. The Swindle a good example. Looks like a nice little dress knife. My problem is that I would have to buy one of each and exchange blades. If it can even be done. I want the better Sandvik blade steel and the plain scales of the cheaper model. For the cost of both knives, I can get a much better knife from somebody else.

Over the years I watched CRKT raise prices and lower the quality of the materials used. In other words, more money, less knife. That is not what I am after. My goal is to go up the quality ladder not down. I used to recommend their knives quite often but not so much any more. Their prices, to me, seem to be a little high when the quality control and heat treatment can come into question. Don't get me wrong, they are not bad knives. I just think there are much better knives at the same price point. The Utilitac comes to mind. So does the Rat series. I would consider a CRKT knife long before most of the offerings from Gerber.

If you are looking for a budget designer knife that you don't have to worry about, maybe CRKT is still in the running. Maybe. They are very popular with people in uniform because of this. I carried one myself for most of my time in the service. Their knives can be picked up in a PX for very reasonable prices

Free market capitalism, as American as Apple pie.

Folks can charge whatever they want for whatever they have, and the market will decide if it's worth the asking price... It's really not all that different then inheriting an item for no cost, and then looking to sell it for a couple bucks rather then giving it away. Whether a mega retailer or just some shmo living in grandma's basement basement, there is nothing wrong with trying to make a few bucks. The market will decide if one actually does though.

my otonashi no ken is amazing. Perfect fit and finish, no blade play, perfect lock engagement, even bevels aswell. Aus 8 blade holds a good edge for a decent amount of time. Overall perfectly executed. Would I pay more for better blade steel? Hell no, cuts just fine.

So you bought multiples of a limited knife and are now selling them for far more than you paid. Awesome.

Thanks for the kind words. Sure I occasionally buy multiples of limited edition knives that I think will be more valuable in the future, many knife aficionados do if they really love that particular knife or model. Don't you? If I can resell them and make a few bucks, it helps me add more knives to my collection.

Don't take my word that this rare CRKT model is a great collectible knife that will only be more valuable in the future. Check with Blade Magazine and ask them what their OVERALL best knife winner model was for 2014. Ken Onion is a great designer and Lion Steel made a great limited edition for CRKT using great steel and materials. Fit and finish is 100%, superb.

And with the proper dealer membership, there is nothing wrong with doing that here.

Since when is a dealer membership required to sell in the exchange?

Pretty sure there is nothing wrong with selling a knife here in the exchange without a dealer membership, even if someone is asking a price more then what you might think a knife is worth, provided said person is in fact not a dealer.
