Whew, lots of reading all these posts.
I think that I have very little use for a sheath knife. I used to be a large fixed blade ( I hate that term) person, but as I got older, my taste changed a lot. especially when you are trying to cut weight off aging joints. My backpacking and go-to knife used to be a Randall 14. After a while of carrying that monstrosity, it got sold off and replaced with a mora number 1. Never missed the Randall. Nowadays I just carry an extra pocket knife and the mora, and if I need to process any wood, then that's what folding saws are for. I've got a small collection of Fiskars, Opinel, Silky, and a few no name that cut well. Love the sliding blade Fiskars and Opinel. A mora and saw does what I need. I have no need of a knife over a 3 or 4 inch blade. If I have to split any wood, just saw halfway through the wood and smack it against a tree, and it splits right down the grain. Way easier on aging joints than hacking and chopping.
Carl.
