What's wrong with the ZT 0560?

Just because "people" on YouTube say things doesn't always make them true. It's always best to find out these things by reading rather than watching. Rumors fly fast online.

Are you serious? This whole time i feel like i have been living a lie. I dont care what you say. People cant post a video if its not true. I read that on wikipedia, lol. ;)

Youtube is the video equivalent of a landfill.

There is value in there, but you'll have to dig through a lot of garbage to find it.

There is nothing wrong with the ZT0560/561. There were thousands sold to happy customers.

There is nothing wrong with the ZT Elmax, regardless of what a few isolated youboob experts might claim.

If the 560 is too large, the 566 is a very nice smaller alternative.

best

Maybe it was a quote from George Washington I read on his blog, I don't remember.:D

It was Lincoln... Photo evidence below:

Owns a ZT 0560. It is definitely an outstanding work: beautiful shape, fine steel, and amazingly low price for its workmanship and configuration.
But there is one thing that makes it not perfect as a tactical folding knife: the opened KVT ball bearing system.
I have completely no problem with ball bearing system, but in my opinion KVT is just not suitable for a folding knife that appears to be tactical with its rock solid lock and 4mm thick blade. For KVT ball bearing system easily get cramped with dirt in complicated outdoor environment. And it may sound a little bit extreme and impractical, but when you are really in trouble and need this knife to be a crowbar, the small balls and the blade would suffer a much bigger intensity of pressure comparing to the knives with gaskets. For theoretically there is only one touching point between the blade and the small ball.
It is a fine knife, but I am not sure that the configuration is perfect for me. It is just like Rambo with all his heavy weapons in snickers: still a tough guy, but a pair of Danner suits him better.
So I plan to make some modification by myself to make it perfect for my a little bit unrealistic personal need.

Imagine the thickness of phosphor bronze washers you'd need to fill in the voids in the frame and blade for the KVT washers. Would they even be washers at that point? Phosphor bronze lugnuts. LOL.

Control Circult I use my 561 mostly in ranch work, cutting hose to fix water troughs, cutting open hay bales. It gets filled with hay, dirt, mud and dust and never have I had any trouble with the bearings. Always flips easily and quick while sometimes hay is flipping out with the blade. So its less prone to get stuck or jammed up than you would think.

The KVT system uses sealed bearings, that is the ball bearings are embedded in a solid carrier (I believe delrin in ZT's case), and most of the time they machine the pockets so that the actual bearings aren't exposed to the outside, only the solid carrier.

I could see dust and dirt getting in to a caged system, where the ball bearings are held by a simple folded piece of sheet metal with voids underneath. Still, at worst it would just slow up deployment. I can't see a knife jamming because there's dirt in the track.

Dust/lint, dirt, etc. will get in there, as it's not airtight. But as you said, all it does is make the deployment marginally less smooth, compared to new. And all it takes is a quick rinse under hot water to flush it all out, and it'll be back to new. This isn't unique to bearings though, as every folding knife I've ever carried invariably accumulates lint and dirt in the handles.

Another forum member dunked his 0561 into a bucket of mud, and the action still worked fine (see http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/949197-ZT0561-Mudbucket!!!!! ).

Yeah it would be a really thick washer and I am not sure what is it going to be...maybe I would try a Teflon instead.

Thanks for your reply. What I tried to say is just that ball bearing system elevates the difficulty for cleaning. But my major concern is actually the second point that the knife becomes really fragile when receiving lateral force compared to washer folding knives. It is perfectly OK for an EDC or for outdoor, but you know there are people imagining "extreme situations".

How is it more difficult to clean an 056x than a knife with washers? Have you ever really had one apart? They couldn't be easier to clean, and they come apart and go back together just like a knife with washers.
