What's your beater?

CRKT M16, the zytel spear point version. My Spyderco SS Calypso Jr. on ocassion also. I prefer the calypso for serious cutting though, absolutely no worries about the lock.

One of these two -depends which one I find first: a carbonsteel puukko with waxed curly birch handle or Marttiini forged carbonsteel puukko that resembles puukko that is sold as M571 in internet(but has grippier handle - handle is covered with kraton like material). This model is propably not sold outside Finland.

I can't think a folder to be real 'beater'. For me beater will occasionally get hammer hits to the back of blade etc.. I can't see me hammering folders back... But if I had to choose one of my folders to be the 'beater folder' then Spyderco G-10 Standard would be my choise.

If I really need to risk the tool:
For scraping or actually cutting: box cutter (good as a lender, also)
Hacking: Camillus Mark 2
Generally I prefer a bit of finesse over potential harm to equipment (right tool for the right job).

Usually it's whatever I'm carrying in my hands at the time. Usually at home it's a necker made be myself. But, it could be a M18, Pro-Grip, 555, or anything.

Out in the woods, it's either a Trailmaster, Simonich Mid-Tech Raven, or the CS LTC for big work.

I try to treat my knives with care. The only one I really abused was an old Buck 112 in 440C that I had for about 15 years, it got plenty of scratches, wood worn off the handle and some dents on the rear bolster from once hammering some loose rivets, it held up quite well. It was stolen and I haven´t replaced it yet.

big ugly jobs? Spyderco Endura (this one already got run over by a semi, so it's only going to get prettier)

a little bigger -- Dozier pro guide
anything bigger -- hatchet

Actually, it's the smallest knife I have. The Kershaw Silver Spur is a folding lock-blade the size of a Swiss Army Classic. Very sharp and small enough that I always have it on me.

mine is a cold steel voyager w/ tanto tip, I am going to beat the serrations off it eventually.. I hate them :)

I stab it into basically anything, I got the knife for cheap on ebay.
(15 bux u.s), if it breaks or I lose it, who cares.

My SNG. I put my Sebenza through some pretty tough stuff, but I'm apparently not as bold as stjames!

Folder - Al Mar S2K

Fixed - Greco Companion

They are two down and dirty tough knives. I would bet my life on those two. It's funny how you wind up "bonding" more with the knives you use the hell out of more than the ones you baby.
