Not sure if anyone watced the Eukanuba Dog Show last night, but in a REALLLY rare event, the Alaskan Malamute won the Best In Show at one of the most prestigious dogs shows in the world.
I saw it, mostly because my lab/mutt likes to watch dog shows. Your's looks as good as the one on television! Beautiful dogs.

Currently, my wife and I have a couple of Australian Shepherds. We had a couple of black lab mixes for nearly 13 years (litter mates, both spayed females) and when the one that was "my wife's" them passed away, my wife did her research and decided she wanted to get a purebred Australian Shepherd. Cutest puppy I've ever seen (and a beautiful adult dog, even if her ears aren't typical AS ears). When the other lab passed away (3 months later, to the day), I started looking around for a chocolate lab (another black lab would've been too difficult, emotionally), taking my time since we didn't want two young puppies in the house at the same time. However, around here it seems like they're all $500, champion bloodline, 100+lb. labs and I didn't want that big a dog; our lab mixes had been around 50 lbs. and that was, IMHO, a good size. So I also got a purebred Australian Shepherd. As things worked out, "my" dog, Molly, who's now 1 year, 4 months old, is Sydney's aunt, born to Sydney's grandmother. Sydney is almost exactly one year older than Molly; both were born in September and both are (spayed) females.

She scouted ahead, found an easy traveling dear trail for us and pushed me from behind on the parts of the trail that I needed assistance on.

I take it she dines at the table and has first call on dark or white meat. :D

One of my favorites a Transylvania Hound also known as a Erdelyi Kopo (how cool is that to have a dog named after you? :D ), or Hungarian Hound.

for looks -my mutt(pittrott) roscoe p coltrane is without a doubt the best looking dog ever-not a single person who has seen him says otherwise-of coarse he is dumber than any dog i have ever owned-his half sister is real smart though but dam ugly

The breed of dog I like isn't listed. I really like "other peoples" dogs. Don't get me wrong, I do like dogs. I just don't want something else to take care of. I used to play with my neighbors dog a lot before he died. Then after I was done playing with him I would send him home to be fed, poop, etc.
My kids are starting to want a dog. So I know at some point I'm going to give in and get one.

Exactly how I feel about kids! :D

Boston Terriers, best breed imho, tougher than a coffin nail.....but cuddly, a real "mans" type dog, I have two, Fenway and Buster and my mutt Archie a great goofy dog.
Cheers,
Rob

:) Have 5 rescues-all mutts-a 60 pound shep/lab mix, a beagle/foxhound mix who is the best mouser in the world, a cairn/poodle mix from a breeding place, a Rhodesian Ridge/Lab mix male who is a seventy pound lap dog, and a 20 pound chiuahua who lied to us-a Hurricane Katrina survivor, had a bad heart-not much time left-brought her home to pass away in "love"-now the darn thing rules the whole roost-i keep saying we brought home a Vietnamese pot bellied pig (don't worry-she is on the most expensive diet-senior-low calorie food). Mutts rule!

I'm pretty sure Great Danes are considered hounds, so that's how I voted. My brother and I grew up with Danes in the house almost constantly, and they're pretty cool dogs. Smart, loyal, and very affectionate. Intimidating as hell to bad guys too. There aren't many people out there who will take on a 150+ lb dog with jaws that can crush a doorknob. They are expensive and short-lived though.
