What's your Everyday Fiddleback?

For everyday use, it's literally the EDC for me. Sorry for the crappy phone pics. I can't carry it at work but it gets strapped on as soon as I get home. Daily uses include making magic & fairy wands, quidditch broomsticks, unicorn & narwhal horns, and the mundane tasks of muggle life. My daughters are going through their H. Potter stage and we're enjoying it as long as we can.

In hand. Photobucket is killing me this morning.

Some kitchen use:

At 5/32, it's also capable of some heavier work.

When I do carry fixed (i.e. when engaged in outdoor activities) I carry a Bushfinger or an Arete. The Ladyfinger that Duder sold me may get some carry time next week in Colorado. I will be trying out the Hiking Buddy and the Bush Raptor as well.

When in town, which unfortunately is most of the time, I carry a Benchmade Mini Griptilian, Barrage in M 390 or ZT 566.

My EDC go to are the EDCII and the Sneaky Pete in CPM 154. The EDCII is carried weak side front pocket and the SP is carried strong side front pocket. Both sporting RLO IWB/IP pants.Add to this the multi-tool and the flashlight on the belt, and my jeans get to be pretty heavy.

I apologize for the cell phone pictures, but that's what I have with me.

Thanks guys for the additions. Looking like the EDK and EDC are the most popular so far (not surprising, given "Every Day" is in their names). I think Walt and Bud win for the largest EDC knife with the Sneaky Pete.

Here are some comparisons of my current batch of rotating EDC knives, minus the EDK which is out for a bit. Of these the Runt, EDK, Hiking Buddy and Patch are the most often carried.

Runt - Tuxedo on 1/8" TT
Karda - Bocote on 3/32" SFT
Hiking Buddy - Bocote on 3/32" SFT Scandi
Patch - African Blackwood on 1/8" SFT
EDCII - Tuxedo on 5/32" SFT
Bushboot - Big Old Fat Tuxedo on 5/32" FT

More detail was asked about how we typically carry these. Thanks Walt for providing some good info on your setup.

For me, the EDK shown previously in it's RLO pocket clip sheath either goes clipped in the left front pocket or hanging on my belt. The choice of which way I carry it really depends on how much crap I can fit in the pocket on that day. The other knife that I do something similar with is the Runt. Rick made one that has a very thin belt loop so that it can easily squish down and go in the pocket. Same as the EDK, I'll either carry this in the LFP or on the belt depending on pocket space. For the rest of them, they go on the belt. My attire is pretty much guaranteed to be jeans or shorts and an untucked button up shirt. In Colorado, it's legal to carry pretty much anything under 3.5" concealed and to carry "Hunting and Fishing" knives of any size when hunting and fishing. If any of these are showing on my belt, I don't really care. I'm always open to discussing them.

Thanks for the excellent photos Nathan. Great comparison shots and in hand photos. I like your explanation of sheath choices also. Very informative.

Now I "need" a Runt.

My place of work has some very vague policies when it comes to knife carry. They state "Any knife with a blade larger than that of a folding pocket knife; dagger; razor or other cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism, or otherwise." Is considered a weapon.

I keep a Spiderco Military in my desk drawer to show that the SP does not have a blade longer than a folding pocket knife. I have never once been questioned.

Now that's awesome. Don't you love vague policies. Who's folding pocket knife? Put a Cold Steel Espada in the drawer and you could carry a Camp Knife. :)

The law here states that even for over 3.5", prosecution has the burden of proof to show that the knife was meant to be used as a weapon and not as a tool. It has some very specific language about gravity knives (I've heard of cases where they've claimed that standard Spydercos are gravity knives since they can fall open when loose), switchblades, throwing stars and nunchaku. I'd rather not deal with it so I just carry under 3.5".

I don't know if I have an everyday fiddleback. As far as an edc goes - the closest fixed blade I have got to is probably this white karda with the kydex. It can just disappear in my pocket, which is very cool. I carved a whole spoon with it so it is a pretty good worker too. The problem is, I live on the coast and getting sand in the kydex sheath has been a problem. For edc, I haven't been able to get away from my spyderco sage 1. With the stainless blade and the ease of cleaning it out it is pretty awesome. It goes everywhere with me. I am excited to start trying this new scandi ed karda in really cool pants by bonafide. It fits in my pocket pretty well.

Great comparison shots, Nathan!

I really like the ASP here. Do you recall what color description was used for the G-10?

For sure. The Asp is Slate Blue. The EDK was also identified as Slate Blue in the sale thread where I bought it, but it is definitely Forest Green.

Here's my EDKarda and sheath I've been carrying for about 9 months. Made it from heavy 10 oz leather. Dang thing is built like a tank. The inside is lined with suede.
I normally carry it inside my front pocket, on my reactionary side - IMO, describing one half your body as weak is a defeatist mentality. ;)
I usually wear Liberty overalls on my off days - so no waistbands or belts. The handle is faded from the drying effect leather can have on handles.
The knife has always been stored in the sheath - nothing extra done to either the knife of sheath. Just wipe them off after use or when visibly dirty.
I use the knife for just about anything - whittling, opening cardboard packages, to cutting up my dinner.

LOL, point we'll taken. EDCII worn left side front pocket, SP worn right side front pocket.

Hey Walt,

have you ever carried any to the football games? I like to have something when I'm tailgating outside the stadium (just a folder), but always make sure to leave it in the car when we walk over to the game. Not that I'd have any use for it at the game anyways, but just wondering....

I do not go to football games because Beaver Stadium is the third largest city in PA on Saturday. You know the rat race afterwards. I have carried to Bryce Jordon for basketball games and to the new Hockey arena. But they are always folders completely concealed inside the pocket. If you have a small FB that fits in a pocket sheath like VANCE has with his Runt, I would have no problem giving this a try either. I use the same KSF pocket sheath for some BRKs that I carry sometimes. Do they have metal detectors at Beaver Stadium? If not, you should have no problems.
