I was wandering this while sitting down playing with a cheaper knife. The limit of the knife's price is $40. My personal favorite is the Kershaw Ignite I love the flipping action and it holds edge ok for what it is.

my faves under 40, spyderco tenacious, persistence, Ontario utilitac 2, Kershaw skyline, for a smaller edc look at the Kershaw scallion, mines black on black love flipping that little guy

None of my carry knives are cheap. All are inexpensive. I prefer a Victorinox Alox Cadet, which was under $25. My lifestyle and my use of cutting implements outside the kitchen doesn't call for anything more robust.

Enlan el01 is one of my personal favorites, best folding knife I ever bought for under 20 dollars. It flips open fast and the blade just looks cool. Only thing I dislike is that the handle feels uncomfortable in my hands compared to some of my other budget knives.

Opinel no.8, has a great blade for cutting, nice handle and lockable- but not at all tacticool, just cool.

Buck 301 stockman and cold steel voyager series. Pretty tough to beat for price and performance.

My favorites are a number of Vic Swiss Army knife models. But I know this is not what you're looking for in terms of inexpensive favorites. Two come to mind that I like; Cold Steel Tuff Lite and Kabar Dozier folding hunters.

My favorite cheapo by far is my cold steel mini recon 1. Under $40, light, cheap, tough, badass. What more could you want?

American lawman! I know they retail around $50, but I got mine used like new here on bf for $35! If I had to choose real prices, it'd have to be the rat 1 or utilitac. Ontario's Taiwan manufacturer is awesome.

I keep coming back to the Svord Mini Peasant. It's lightweight, easy to pocket carry, has a decent sized blade, takes a nice edge, is very simple and strong.

My favorite cheap edc-knife is the Sanrenmu GR5-605, it has pushed my Spyderco Manbug zdp-189 out of my pocket... just saying :)
I like the ergonomics (full grip is possible), like the smooth opening and red g10.
It's 10 times cheaper then the manbug, but i really like it, edge retention is of course not the same as the zdp-189, but it's easy to sharpen and get's razor sharp.

Everyday I carry a Craftsman 9473 (Ulster 89) in my pocket and a Victorinox Farmer on my belt.

$15 for the Craftsman.

Less than $35 for the Victorinox.
