What's your favorite folder & why?

That is a tough question!

Right now, my top picks would have to be:
1. CRK Large Classic Sebenza
2. Buck/Strider Tanto (pretty close to a Strider GB)
3. Benchmade AFCK AXIS (806D2)

The CRK for its beauty, simplicity, and utility, the Buck/Strider for its brute strength and toughness, and the Benchmade for its edge and AXIS lock. :D

The Chimera Elite by D.C.Monroe.Titanium handle and talonite blade makes it allmost non-magnetic(?tiny screws).I work as an MRI tech so I don't have to worry about the folder flying out of my pocket and crashing into the bore of the 1.5T magnet. The Chimera is the perfect size for me.It has a thick .80 liner lock and opens as smooth as a Sebenza. In fact I just purchased D.C's Typhon model from Arizona Custom Knives. Its almost a carbon copy of the Chimera.

My Charles Marlow high hollow ground utility balisong. 3.75" ATS-34 blade, stainless handles with brown micarta inserts. It is extremely strong and reliable, cuts very efficiently, pretty, and it is fun to play with.

Tough choice but in order of preference here:

Commander - love the wave
AFCK - good blade and handle ergonomics
Gunting - for SD

Spyderco Native. I'm not sure why this is my fave, but it's the only one that rides my pocket. No other knife seems to be so useful to me...

How timely--I just went through all of my knives (cleaning and playing), and re-evaluating which ones I really like the most.
It really came down to just a handful.

One-hander/tacticals:
CRKT Bladelock--a terrific knife! Great ergonomics, very nice blade design, awesome locking method. But a bit heavy and the clip could be better.

Benchmade 555 Mini-Griptilian--Well made for a small knife and the Axis-lock is great too. Just a little too small in the hand (but that's the price you pay for a smaller knife).

Gerber Air Ranger--Yes, it's a liner-lock (and not a very thick liner at that). Yes, it's made in Taiwan (does'nt bother me at all). And yes, it's very cheap (only about 30.00 at Walmart, I think).
But this knife is, without question, the most comfortable folder I have ever owned. The blade to handle ratio is nearly perfect. The blade is neither too wide nor too narrow, and is thick enough for tough work without being too thick. The hardened aluminum handle has virtually no flex and is textured just right. The AUS-8 is a good compromise for edge retention and ease of resharpening.
I'll keep an eye on the lock to see how it travels across the tang, but so far I'm very happy with this one.

Slip-joints:
Victorinox Electrician--If you like the Pioneer and the Soldier models, then you'll like this one too. Its got all the quality and performance that you would expect of a Victorinox SAK. And it's built strong as a bank vault.

Wenger Serrated Backpacker--Just the right amount of tools in a light weight and compact package. The Swiss can't miss!

Leatherman Micra--Still the best little mini-multi-tool out there! Ultimately handy and easy to replace.

Good luck,
Allen.

Charles Marlowe Frame lock! Wide 3/16 thick BG42 blade, Ti handles, rock solid and 100% hand made!:)

Spyderco Native, lightweight PE version. It's the one "do it all" knife in my collection, light and easy to carry, yet very capable. It doesn't scare many people so I tend to use it often.

Gotta love the Benchmade "Griptillian(s)" with that "axis lock"; got me a 556 PE earlier this month. You forumite(s) keep'em coming, I'm SURE the manufacturer's are watching / reading ALL of this ;)

AET ;)

Spyderco Steel handle Harpy in either PE or SE.

I have an older and somewhat rare plain edge ss handled harpy that's my daily use knife and then I have the same knife in serrated edge for emergency use. I like the design because it packs alot of cutting power in a small package. Oh and the slick hole. and wel all know how much we like a nice slick hole:D

My favorite folder may seem a little tame compared to the others listed, but here goes, it's a little Queen 2 bladed Serpentine Jack, with Winterbottom Bone scales, made in the 70's.

The reason? I can't explain it, I just really like the way it cuts and feels, it's just a nice knife. Kinda like my Dad carried.

It's always changing, and I'm more of a fixed blade man than a folder man -- but right now I'm carrying a CRKT M-18 and I love it.

I'd have to put the 1982 Bullet knife on there just for collectible reasons.

My current favorite folder is my Carson M16 with carbon fiber scales and stellite blade. The knife is amazing. It carries well, holds a great edge, and has unmatched corrosion resistance.

My favorite all time folding knife design is the Carson M4. It's a classic design that has all the looks and feel I could ever desire in a knife. The m16 is starting to make me feel like that as well, but the M4 still holds a special place in my heart. My 440V M4 is crying every night. She is being neglected and she's jealous that I've been running around with the M16.

If you have never handled a Carson, you haven't really lived. They are amazing pieces of work. I guess that's why I've bought 4 in the past few weeks.

I'm a devout Spyderco fan, but I still have to say Benchmade McHenry Williams 710 Axis...still.

Traditionally, a folder is a trade-off for a fixed blade. It compromises blade strength by the tang in favor of convenience of carry.

The 710 shook up the industry with its near fail-safe Axis lock (although BM wasn't the first to have such a lock) and spawned copycats. It also changed how I view folders and what I look for in a good folder. In addition, it is functionally a great knife: a 4" blade in a land of 3.25 and 3.5 inch blades, and it is nice to look at inspite of boring black G-10 handles.

It's still Benchmade's flagship folder even if it isn't the prettiest. It's a utilitarian knife designed for all out performance; not for some display case. It kicks the ass out of folders out there two to three times its price IMO.

Hey Jeremy I got a large Carson model 4 coming in tomorrow. It has the clip point blade, ti bolsters, brown micarta handles, and a clip that is mounted as high as possible on the bolster. Been missing the model 4 since you got the last one I had.

Burkstar, for a moment there I thought you were describing my J.W. Smith LS-1 Recurve! :) Then I read it was an Onion. :D

Steve Harvey how 'bout a picture of the Marlowe with the brown micarta............sounds totally

Tom Mayo's TNT.

Absolutely the best folders I have ever owned. Hands down.

Superlative skill and craftsmanship in each knife, making each knife a piece of "Performance Art".

My holy grail of folders.

I'd have to say my LCC D/A is my fav. It has a great blade that is sharp as heck, looks neat, and holds an edge very well. The handle, with it's Titanium bolsters, and carbon fiber scales, is so very classy. The D/A nature of it's opening is way cool:cool:, and easy to use either way. The fit and finish rival most any custom I've seen. Are there better knives out there?? YES!, but do I own them?? NO!!:( Until I'm able to afford them, the LCC is my favorite:D
