Mastiff, Id really like to see that modded Speedform 2. I was thinking of doing something along the lines of what you did to yours but adding a different poket clip and some different g10 handles but lazy'd out after I got my 0551.
RoRoRo, It's pretty ugly. I sharpen by hand and tend to scratch things up. Then I sandpaper a lot of the scratches out. Notice I say a lot rather than all, or go to a nice satin finish. Yeah, it's ugly, but the very edge sparkles in many colors when held just right. It just wipes arm hairs away above the skin without a sound.
I have to admit to having some darksider leanings. I'm not going to treat my 551, Blur or Speedform like that though. The thought of uglying them up bothers me. I don't need to anyways. It's not necessary with Elmax. That was my Elmax experimental blade. I tried all different angles and widths on it all the way down to zero.
What I found out is it's a super clean steel that had no inclusions or imperfections and a really fine grain structure. Whether you want to run it weirded out like mine, or just keep it stock and sharpen it as needed Elmax can really do it all without sweating. IMO, it has better edge stability due to these strengths than S30V, D2, and other high performing steels in which class it falls.
No, I wouldn't put it in super premium class like S110V, and S90V, 10V, etc., but a step lower. It also likely can perform well without getting too chippy up to it's hardness limits ( reasonable ones anyway).
We sure didn't have steels like these back in the 80's, or even 90's.

Stainless meant "suck" in 1980. (except for 440C of course which was in Buck and Gerber knives that I couldn't afford on my army salary)
Sorry, I really don't even own a camera.
