What's your favorite machete?

Terrible pic but I love my BHK Outdoors machete!!

I just got my Tramontina recently. My brother got it for me while in Brazil. Still had the price tag and label on it as I took it out back to give it a go. :D Very good chopper. Not keen on the plastic handle but I can change that eventually.:D

for hacking brush i like my tramontina (which is really dull right now) because of its length...outside of that i use a kershaw outcast, which is a real brute of a chopper...

My favorite machete is the Cold Steel 2 Handed machete. This has been the best machete I have owned to date. It has enough heft to chap through anything i have needed to chop through so far. It sharpens easy. It is very light weight for the size and I can use it one handed without any trouble what so ever. I would recommend this one to everyone. Even if you already have a machete, drop the $26 bucks and try it out. I doubt you will be disappointed.

I have the 2-handed panga and I sharpened half of the back edge. Makes a nice ditch bank blade.

I have 3 of the old Collins Machetes and you can't beat them but I think they went out of business as I wanted to get one of my Son's one and can't find any
around. If anybody knows where to get one new let me know as mine are used and very old but still get the job done and hold a good edge. Thx.

Yeah they went under in the 70's and were acquired by Nicholson/Cooper Tools. You can still get Cooper Tools machetes bearing the Collins logo ad name....but they're a far cry from the Collins of old. Ebay and military surplus websites are your best bet.

As far as Machete type blades go I have the ones below. The Fiddleback is the best chopper of all of them. Next would be the Tram and the no name with the round handle. Grabbed this thing for about 5 bucks on Ebay and it chops like crazy.

The two below that are a Condor Golok and a Cold Steel Kukri. These are unused for several reasons. The Golok, while sharp, came with the brass pins sticking out on one side of the handle. They are rough and jagged and were either never ground down flush to the handle, or there was some shrinkage with the wood. I am guessing it slipped through QC since they are flush on one side but not the other. Just haven't had time to mess with it.

The Cold Steel (my 1st offering from them) came as dull as any blade I have ever seen. You can run your hand along the edge and press down hard. No danger of getting a scratch. Also, the tip is smashed. This one will take some major work before I can swing it at anything.

Normally I would just answer.. yes.

but this dang 16 incher prototype has really been finding itself in my hands more and more. If you have a chance to try any 16" machete, I would suggest going for it.

Nice joe looks a bit like the Marbles 14 inch Scout- fantastic design, a bit more belly than the average latin style machete, so it bites deeper, yet it is just as multi-purpose.

Hey Joe, know offhand where I can find a Gavilan machete? They appear to be very well made but the only model I can get my hands on is a big square sugar cane deal.

I like that one and the shashqa-looking one in the upper left that's two up from it.

Most of my Machetes are over 20 years old. I have 2 Collins 21" and 23", and my two West German made Tiger cane knives. My only recent acquisition is UK made 14" Martindale which I modified for my needs. Recently I have been carry this into the jungle the most.

I have never been in love with the machete. I have a couple, and use them from time to time. They stay in the big Rubbermaid tote in the back of my old 4Runner. Of those I am using, I would say the 12 inch Cold Steel SAX is my 'favorite'.

I hope Joezilla won't mind, but in comparison to HIS collection, my few are almost an afterthought. This was a pile on his work table recently.
