Other than female humans of course... I would ask what your favorite animal was but that's too vague as fa as mammals go mine is a tie between a raccoon and a coyote Both are really crafty and can thrive in some of the most densely populated areas without most of the people even knowing they are there...When I'm at home seeing.or knowing they're around make me feel a little closer to the wild.

The dog. Currently searching for my 2nd boxer.

Wolf.

I know, not nearly as companionable as the dog. But there's just something about them...

Had a wolf-mix when I was young. Independent, tough, territorial -- but one tremendous partner. Very protective of the family. Made me a life-time dog lover...

Yea as far as a companion goes you cant beat a dog (well you can but thats mean :). I have a 5 month old female blue heeler. she's one smart pup and goes almost everywhere with me. I take her on hikes and bike rides in the woods and she never needs a leash, she just follows along, and when i stop to build a fire or practice trapping she just roams the area until i call her. Heelers a great pets for outdoor activities.

If you mean wild mamal, I'd choose the cougar. For some reason that animal has a magnatism to me.

I had what my grandad called an 'imagined' run in with a cougar when I was a boy. Maybe thats it.

Hey Jar, does your heeler nips and herds? I've been looking into one, but I heard that they are a little nippy. How energetic are they compared to labs and such in the house?

While animals, i would have to say tigers. Big, independent hunters, cool colors. Always find them facinating.

It was my impression that Heelers are one of the more intelligent breeds, supposed to be a very bright dog. As for a wild mammal Id say that I like Otters, sea or river. Playfull, friendly, bright, funny looking little buggers. To this day I still say that I saw a river Otter running to the South Saskatchewan River one summer day out by the Saskatoon dump. Many animals not indigenous to central or southern Saskatchewan such as moose, bears etc ocasionaly find their way south by wandering the river valleys. So I say that the Otter was possible.

In the wilds of nature I love the Tiger. They are solitary for the most part, hunt everything as the apex predator and generally have the wits to make a quick meal anywhere.

As to the ones that need me for food, Staffordshire Terriers are the best, loyal, smart and brave.

My dim whited, slightly over weight Chocolate Lab K.C. :D

As far as wild, it's a toss up between Wolves, or Cougars.

My new Yellow Lab. Not exactly new at 1.5 years old but I just got her so she's new to me:p .

Wild mammal would have to be White Rhino. I've had a liking for 'em since I was a kid and would watch 'em tear up John Waynes land rover in Hatari:cool: . Just one fast, powerful, no-guff-takin' machine of an animal.

The North American whitetail deer, specifically a female deer about 6 months old, medium rare, roasted with potatos, carrots, onions and celery, served with fresh, hot, crusty sour dough and a nice Pinot Noir. Chris
