What's your favorite movie knife

Not really a top 10 list, but I am a lover of horror films. Notably for me is the Buck 120. The Friday the 13th series is my most beloved. The 120 was never actually featured in any of the films themselves, but was used in the cover art on parts 4, 7 and 8.

My son saw this recent display at a movie theatre and we scored this for free, although huge!

Encino Man, right?

Right? Since we're talking movie knives, I thought that was where he was going with it, but I don't remember a knife.

I’ve been trying to find out what the knife in starship troopers is for a good long while. When Carmen and Xander land in the cave and he pulls out a knife/dagger. It appears to be half serrated. I’ve been told it’s just a prop knife and that there’s no maker. I don’t know if this adds to your list but figured this might be a better place to find answers since yall are doing movie knives. Thanks

Whatever it is, it has a full tang and no handle scales. Just one piece of metal (may not be steel if it's just a prop knife).

But it could be a production knife. To me it kinda has a Parker/Frost/United/etc. look to it. In the earlier shots when Xander is looking at it, the knife appears to have a thin blade, like maybe 1/8th". That would make me think cheap production.

I have no idea who made it, probably a custom piece, but I enjoyed watching Chavez wield his muskrat knife in Young Guns II.

Whatever the dashing and debonair Mr. Trejo here is carrying.

Looks like a cheap production knife and they just removed the scales for visual effect.

Knives have been co-starring in movies since the inception. Whether it is some version of the Excalibur, A bowie like the Irion Mistress, one of the many knives used by Tarzan, Rambo, Conan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Klingons, or any other hero or villain, we all have our favorites. So let’s put together our list of the 10 top movie knives of all time.

Here are my starting suggestions:
1) The Iron Mistress
2) Rambo's Lyle bowie from First Blood
3) The Randall 14 from Exposure
4) The Crain machete from Predator
5) The Busse Team Gemini from The Walking Dead
6) Spyderco police featured in Training Day and Eraser
7) The Cold Steel push dagger from Platoon
8) The Bowie from Crocodile Dundee
9) The Italian Switch Blade from the original Magnificent 7 (Blackboard Jungle or West Side Story)
10) One of the many Saks knives used in MacGyver
11) Tom Brown tracker from Hunted
12) Spyderco Harpy from Hannibal
13) Apache Bowie from Inglorious Bastards
14) Buck 120 from Scream
15) Western W49 Bowie from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
16) Crain Life knife from Commando
17) Gerber mk II from Aliens
18) US 1918 trench knife from Big Red One
19) Frederich Herder auto knife from Big Jake
20) ring dagger from Terminator II
21) Sog S1 from Terminator
22) Sog Desert Dagger from Kill Bill
23) Bastinelli Raptor L from Lucy
24) Sog Pentagon from Soldier
25) Mel Gibson’s sword from BraveHeart

The big fail so far has been that Hollywood has yet to feature a Smatchet in any of their films. Then again, such a knife would have provided enough of an advantage to immediate resolve the movie plot and prematurely end the film.

What would be on your top 10 list?

I think they actually used the W47 in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the smaller version of the W49.

Robert Redford did carry a W49 in Jeremiah Johnson.

Benicio Del Toro used a polished Kabar USMC (or a similar model thereto) to demolish some grapefruits in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He later used a Buck 110 to intimidate a waitress.

Also, in Hostiles, several of the characters carry the period-correct Model 1890 Entrenching Knife that was issued to US Cavalry troopers.

It's a pretty obscure militaria artifact, but I appreciate that the director took the time to provide the actors a proper kit rather than using some generic, knock-off Bowie knives for everyone.
