  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What's your favorite opening mechanism?

:) Wave or just gravity / inertial type opening .

Very fast and more fun !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

All manual folders for me. Spyderco’s hole is number one. Cold Steel’s thumb studs and plates are close seconds.

No interest in autos, assisted, or flippers. I prefer a thumb stud or hole with an optimal detent. I also dislike bearings, flipper tabs, and "fidget factor".

Spydie hole. Thumb stud. Thumb plate. And most recently fell in love with button locks. Just press the button and whip the blade out.

In theory, it would have to be the Spydrco hole but, based upon what I carry most, it is a thumbstud with Axis Lock.

For a smaller knife, it is the US made Kershaw Zing. It has a flipper and the best thumb stud I’ve ever seen.

Thumbstuds by far, however the Spydie hole ain't bad either. The problem with Spyderco knives in general, is the hole adds too much width or height to the blade taking up more pocket space than they should. But I still use my Spyderco's on occasion.

Flippers? I have several and rarely carry any of them, just don't like them all that much. Auto's are illegal and assisted openers for the most part are frowned upon but the two I own rarely get carried. So thumbstuds it is.

I like em all and have a smattering of each in my collection. I have to admit, I've really come to enjoy the tactility of opening a slip-joint, but it's hard to beat the action of an OTF.

Assuming the OP means folding knives ...

Flippers, top or side. I cannot easily operate thumb studs or Spydie holes due to residual deficit from a stroke.

This should have been a poll.

Variety is the spice of life. I have more flippers than anything else, with nearly as many Spydercos. I prefer a knife that can be opened multiple ways; the Smock, which works as a flipper or with the hole, is my favorite fidget knife.

A toss up between the flipper and spydie hole, although I carry a traditional with the nail knick from time to time.

Honestly I like variation. Flippers, thumbstuds, spydieholes, and button locks (underutilized in the industry IMO). However the good ole AXIS is probably my all time favorite.
I also like pretty much any of them but I think my favorite is a flipper. They are simple and work well and have never caused me any problems.

Based on my carry habits, I use knives with nail nicks more.
