What's your favorite production bowie?

That two piece D guard is slick for sure.

I'm fishing around for something more minimalist or traditional though.

the cold steel 9.5" bowie in 52100 is excellent value for around $100 - imho 52100 isn't used often enough, it's among my favourite for non-stainless, just after 80crv2

Put a DIY swedge on mine . Yes , I know the tip is rounded ...works fine !

Buck 124 or a Buck 119. Both have proven to be exceptional tools for me. Very versatile designs. Capable of everything I’ve ever needed them to do.

the carvings shown below were made entirely with the 124, except for that large serving spoon which I used a hook knife to make the bowl.

Impressive work!

To my mind a bowie is a pure fighting knife and nothing else. So in that context a Cold Steel Natchez and Laredo are the best on the market, IMO. When paired with the right sheath, they can be carried although the Natchez is a challenge for sure. The Laredo is easier.

The Laredo is an O-1 and linen micarta combo which I think is the best option. Natchez is the San Mai version. Nowadays you can get it in 3-V which is awesome steel but its pricey.

My favorite production Bowie is the SOG S1, though it's no longer in production. Certainly a Bowie style, but it's not really a big knife, and, unlike the original knives, doesn't have a sharpened clip. Still, it's close enough to what my dad brought home in '68.
And, while some may wince, it's a far better using knife than the Vietnam blades. The leather handle doesn't shrink so badly, and the heat treatment is correct for the steel type, brittleness is not an issue. And, for me, neither is collector value...

I often "babysit" (*"chaperone") at a few Ranches, here in South Texas, during "Deer Hunting Season".

Incidentally, I'll throw a "Bag O' Bowies" in my little flatbed truck, for the Hunters to "play" with around the campfire(s). Just from memory, the bag has an Ontario SP-10, a Condor "Undertaker", a couple of Barky "Teddy IIs", a KHHI "dBad Preacher", a Barky "Rio Grande", a Cold Steel "Wild West", a Down Under "The Outback", and a few others....

I once bet one of the Hunters that he couldn't gut/skin/quarter a whitetail with a "Teddy II". He quickly relieved me of one of my $20 bills...

For me? I like playing with my little "Undertaker"... 🤷‍♂️
