What's your favorite PRODUCTION folder and fixed blade?

Greetings all, a thread over in the custom knives forum got me thinking about how many knives I have. The majority are production knives, and I definately have a few favorites amongst many good and a few great knives.

My favorite production fixed blade: BK&T BK-5. This model has been discontinued sadly. It was designed by Mr. Jerry Fisk, and is brilliant in it's simplicity. It doesn't hurt that mine has a "shave a sleeping mouse and not wake him" sharp convex edge put on by Mr. Fisk himself. A very close second is my Camillus OVB Fiddleback Maple handled 7&1/2" Bowie. Again, a great Fisk design with gorgeous wood.

My favorite production folder: Camillus CUDA Maxx 5.5. This one is a Darrell Ralph design, 5.5" of wicked sharp D2, nice and thin edge designed for cutting. The flipper action is absolutely addicting. It also has a nice thin profile and carries much easier than it's size suggests.

So, what do you have in YOUR collection of productions that is your favorite?

Favorite Production Folder?-- the DarkOps StratoFighter with serial number RB0486, #10 of the first production run.

Favorite Production straight blade?-- Perrin Bowie by Spyderco in a custom kydex reverse carry rig by Mike Sastre

I couldn't possibly pick favorites. I love at least 80% of the knives I own, each for different reasons. But of the knives I've purchased recently, these two are especially outstanding in quality and aesthetics:

Folder: AG Russell Swing Guard.
Fixed Blade: Bark River Tanto.

By coincidence, both of these are made from 440C with ambroynia handles.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Folder- EKA 88, bubinga wood handle, sandvik stainless

Fixed- HI 15" AK, horn handle

Hey Bob, how 'bout some pics of the swing guard?

Now do you mean semi/production or pure production?

folder: Sebbie/Benchmade 942(if you mean strictly production)

fixed:Busse SFNO/SOG S1(if purely production)

The busse SFNO is probably my fav fixed blade period, out of the customs, semi-customs, and production I own the SFNO gets the most use and takes the most abuse. My Sebenza's are my fav folders then my Benchmade, got a Strider comin soon might have a new champ ;)

My favorites in each category are as follows:

Folder: SOG Flash II Aluminum Handle for EDC
SOG Trident Folder for outdoor heavy useage.

Fixed: SOG Seal Pup Elite SE

whoa, that's awesome  . I never realized there were non-auto swinguards out there.

As for my favorite production folder . . . do SKM Stilettos count? They're just so purdy. If not I'd have to go with the EDC Kershaw Leek 1660st, as that's about as cool a folder as I'm legally able to carry in Illinois.

Folder: Current favorite - Camillus Dominator
Fixed: Busse Battle Mistress. I don't use them though, so I have to say that my favorite user Busse is my Active Duty.

Spyderco Military/SE  . I don't own any fixed blades. Never really cared much for them.

I've always liked Buck knives and Spyderco too in later years. The Buck 110 will always have a special place in my heart among folders as well as the Buck 501. I carried one of each for many years in this life.

The Spyderco Calypso Jr. is one of my all time favorite production folders though and perhaps one of the best little prime time cutters around in this "sheeple friendly day and age" we live in.

Fixed blades? I've not been a big buyer of fixed blades in my life but usually I prefer one that is relatively inexpensive that I can put in my truck or back pack without worry or concern, that can do some of everything like the Buck 120 or something similar to that in size and shape. The 7.5" clip blade is capable of doing the chopping tasks associated with camp chores, it works for food prep quite well and it can also be used for both large and small game field dressing tasks quite easily and it is not a lot of $ to get into one. Not the best steel in the world but for what I would ever need in a fixed blade it fits the bill.

folder: Benchmade Ares or Spyderco Chinook II, I can't decide ;)

fixed: another vote for Spyderco Perrin

Fixed- Strider hollow groung MFS with micarta scales.

Folder toss-up- Buck 560, or benchmade 710.

Folder- Spyderco Gunting PE

Fixed- Spyderco Temperance PE (black blade or uncoated, depending on my mood)

Folder: CRKT Carson M18-02:
very well made, comfortable and strong, AUS-8 is'nt a bad everyday steel, not too heavy, nice blade-shape (swedged drop-point with just the slightest recurve), liner-lock with LAWKS, and the flipper is fun and handy.

Unfortunately, it's not currently in production--but the CRKT Carson M21 might be even better.

Fixed: Ontario 12" machete:
Very handy on the trail, not too heavy so you can swing it all day long, and very cheap to replace.

Allen.

I never realized there were non-auto swinguards out there.
There are a few around lately. Case has the Cheetah and the smaller Cheetah Cub. I believe Queen has a swing guard series also.

Some very cool knives are making this list. Keep 'em coming!

Best Wishes,
Bob

folder calypso jr
