What's your favorite single blade pattern?

Sparrowj, I'll help you out! One of the prettiest GECs ever.

Going by sheer numbers, it would have to be the Opinel. I have about a dozen, and carry one every day, either a 6 or a 7. I still have a couple that I bought around 1978 or 1979. There used to be one stashed in the tool tray of about half a dozen of my motorbikes.

For sentiment’s sake, I have to consider the Sodbuster, or work knife pattern. My first one was the Löwen Messer Hippekniep I bought in an Amsterdam department store in 1970. That knife has been with me for longer than any other.

A yellow Case Sodbuster in carbon steel was one of my first buys when I took up a renewed interest in knives around 2013. My favorite knives in this pattern would be the Maserin Plow, in a size that falls halfway between the Sodbuster and the Sodbuster Jr.

Probably a large folding hunter, my favorite is the Buck 110, for most of my outdoor sporting uses, but those are no pocketknives, but rather special purposes knives. For a single blade EDC my favorite pocket knife is the GEC 14 single blade; they pack a lot of blade into a small, flat, and lightweight carry.

Thanks, Jeff, that's the one! So beautiful!
Since the first Cody Scout was produce in 2010 GEC has made many wonderful 72's but yours is the only other one I recall seeing in Red Stag. The Cody Scout is everything I like in a pocket knife, and the Red Stag is simply gorgeous. A few years after they were first released, a blade forum regular put his gently used model up for sale. Without even the slightest hesitation, I grabbed it and today, I'm still pinching myself.

I need to get some pics of mine, but until I do, this will have to suffice;

For me everything about the GEC 72 appeals to me except the slight amount of blade play on mine, but still my favorite in spite of that. The handle and blade shape are very pleasing to my eye and the slim profile make it very pocket friendly.

The GEC 74 could possibly be my #1 as well. I'm pretty much equally fond of it. Having all the same elements that appeal to me in the 72, plus a fine drop point blade.

Interesting. Just goes to show how much personal preference goes into our choices. I have a #74 and had a #72. Different blade shapes on mine though. My #74 is a clip point stallion which I like very much. On the other hand, my #72 was a spear point. It went down the road as I just couldn't warm up to the bulbous blade.

I agree with your thoughts on those two patterns and I imagine I would feel the same about a spear point 72.
But now you've gone and made me aware of my 74 stallion clip blade, another favorite that could also be #1.
Truth is picking just one can be difficult. I'll admit to being indecisive, lol.

Thanks again for all the responses guys. I went back through the whole thread, and about one third of all the posts mentioned a pattern decended from the Remington 1306. I'm counting all the variations there, including clip or drop point, locking or not, different sizes, etc., but all still the same look. So I guess that's our winner.

Remington patterns are very good.
