Love those trappers Mqqn, especially the Oeser!
I have become addicted to stockmen and whittlers. You have to appreciate all the work that goes into a three bladed slipjoint...

Off topic, just a bit...
What would you recommend for a good whittling knife (as opposed to carving tools) in a traditional pattern for actually whittling? I have a Buck 301 that needs a much better edge on each of the blades (factory edge not up to par, never used but just haven't gotten around to putting a decent edge on it yet), but it might make a good whittler. Since you are kind of into that type of traditional knife, what are your thoughts?
Thanks!
The Schrade 804 is my favorite slipjoint of all time. It's a fantastic design and if you can find one I'd highly recommend it. The 301 is good too. I have one and it's a great little knife. Any stockman is a good whittler but I prefer the old Schrades because of their steel. The 1095 they used is really good stuff.
Another one that I'm looking at but haven't tried yet is the GEC 79 Workhorse Whittler. It looks like a good design but I'm not totally sure about the spear main blade..
Yeah, I'm torn between the burnt stag and my addiction for Ebony. Thanks!
Man, that Workhorse is a beautiful knife, especially in burnt stag. Like you, not so sure about the main blade. Seems a mite large - but still hopped right onto my wishlist.![]()
