i have recently required my grail knife, a Bodega. however i cannot bring my self to carry it. no matter how hard i try, the countless nights i say "alright tomorrow will be the day i carry it" i just cannot bring myself to do so. also all my knives are very cheap in price compared to my newly acclaimed Bodega. the most expensive knife i have besides this knife is a Benchmade 940 Osborne. but i saved and saved and on purchase day i almost caved and spent the money on something else but then i went for it, i rested the mouse pointer on the order button and closed my eyes then i clicked, i opened my eyes and saw the purchase approved message. a few days later i got it was in my hands and i loved it and still do of course, however it is going to be a long time before i make a big expense towards a knife like this if at all. it almost feels out of place sitting next to all my 30 dollar kershaws, spydercos and other low cost knives. any way to make me feel better about my purchase id like to know a crazy purchase you made towards a knife or a grail knife you want to purchase in the future.

Whatever my current "grail" knife happens to be (FYI, that changes constantly for most of us!), I MUST have TWO of them - that way, I can carry and use one with no regrets knowing that the "new" one (aka, the "safe queen") is still residing happily in the safe.

To wit, here's on of my all-time favorites - the Northwoods Norfolk Whittler in Elephant Ivory:

Just throw it in your pocket! At least carry it! (Unless you bought it for "investment purposes")

If you want to carry it, but not use it, carry a beater and cut everything with that instead of your precious. Plenty of folks around here tend to do that.

Me personally - I see no need, nor desire to own a knife I won't use. The ones I don't use get traded off or sold.

My advice is to carry it and enjoy it! Use it as it was intended. Knives don't lose value, they gain character.

A Steingass fighter that's due to me in about 6 - 8 months. It has a few minor dimensional tweaks.

Folderwise? There's nothing so far.

I have a hard time carrying extremely expensive knives as well. It's not that I don't want to get them scratched up or devalue them though use. I just don't like having that much value on my person. Shit happens, and it wouldn't be the first time I accidentally lose an EDC knife. I don't own (or rather, I don't like to own) any knife I won't carry. I'm tapped at $500. Any more than that and I'm constantly feeling for it to make sure it's still there in my pocket. So I'm not really into custom knives at the moment. Same goes for flashlights, cell phones, keychain tools and other pocket gadgets. If I can't afford to lose it, I won't carry it. Except for watches, it's kinda hard to lose it if it's attached to your wrist. That being said, my grail knives are among my most expensive in my collection. It would be either my Para II in m390 with John Grimsmo's Titanium scale, and my custom Emerson CQC-15.

Well right now I kind of have 3 grail folders...Is that even possible? After I got these 3 I would quit collecting until I found another grail knife. In Order: 1. Viper Start Folder, 2. HTM Gun Hammer assisted in FDE and a Pohl Force Bravo 1 in OD green. They are currently out of budget sadly.

I can't see the big deal about not using a knife, I have many I never use at all and many I do. As, long as you have what you need in your pocket, there's no harm to having others in the safe unused. In fact I couldn't justify buying so much just to use. But, I feel OK with owning a lot as long as it retains it's value.

My grails are the large and small Sebenza with Mammoth bark inlays and DT Damascus blades. Yes, I would use the crap out of them. I personally can't leave a knife unused in my safe.

Anything by Dalibor Bergman with his river finish and rainbow anodization. Don't ever see myself owning one though, I'm in college (and thus financially unstable) and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Todd begg beggatti hands down. Though I just found out about gtc so that might change lol.
And whatever the knife, I don't want it unless I'm gonna use it.

I use to think I had grail knives. They were an XM and a TGLB. Now though after gaining more experience and a lot more knives I don't think about getting one end all beat all knife. That wouldn't be fun. Now all my knives are a grail in some sort of way.

I would have to say my Randall Made Model 1-7 Brown Button. I found it at an estate sale and ended up paying around 30 dollars for it. It hasn't left my safe since I purchased it.

I own two - one user and one NIB - of my grail folder, the Kershaw Groove. It looks like Kershaw resurrected the model name as a cheap import exclusive to Cabela's, but it lacks the namesake striations ("grooves") of the old USA version. The ZT 0801 runs a close second. For fixed blades, I have yet to find anything that appeals to me the way the Buck Nighthawk does. I know it's nothing special in terms of steel, but the look and feel are the standard I judge other fixed blades by.

All that being said, if I could afford one, a custom Jim Hammond Cruiser might possibly be my next grail. I never see any chatter about his knives, so I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

Production Grail: ZT 0454 (in my pocket)

Mid-tech Grail: 3.5" Olamic wayfarer (waiting on Eugene's list)

Custom Grail: one off custom by Brad Southard (brainstorming ideas/saving up)

Dead broke right now. Current grail is on its way to me, should be in the mailbox tomorrow: TSF Beast. Probably will end up on the block.

I don't really have a grail anymore. But the next knife on my have to have list is the Spyderco Rubicon.

The next knife from Darrel Ralph.

I had a list of my must have folders. Adv Butcher, Hoback kwaiback mid tech, anything from elliot at ferrum forge (the guy is a genius), shirogorov hati, a David Clark fortitude, a bodega, a direware and Brad Southard custom. So far after selling most of my collection I got the Butcher proto, kwaiback mid tech, ferrum forge pretium, shiro hati and in 2 months (hopefully less) I'll have my Clark fortitude. Now the 3 grail knibes are left, bodega, direware and Southard but I don't think I'll be getting those any time soon. In the mean time im deeply in love with my kwaiback and butcher and im on pins and needles waiting for my fortitude thats going to be my first made to order custom. I carry all of those knives, yes they sell for a lot of money but I don't see myself selling them at all. I love mybkwaiback, ive wanted one for over a year and a half and finally got one, i love flipping it hundreds of times a day, I love how its zero ground convex edge cuts like a hot knife through butter. I love my butcher which I got from a great guy I met here through a sale and we became great friend, every tkme I pick it up and use it I remember that I got this knife from a friend and how great of a person he is. Im glad I finally got my pretium, I was bummed that I missed it when kt xame out but I got a chance to get it. Im not saying its wrong to keep a knife in a safe, you bought it with your hard earned money, do what you want with it, who am I to tell you any different? But for me I get joy out of using my knives, carrying it in my pocket and showing to other knife nuts, pass the time by flicking it, thats what I decided to do with my knives. And if/when I get my bodega, direware and even a Brad Southard, I will carry those knives to and love doing it.

As of yesterday it may be a Bawidamann Blades Pogn tanto.

Yeah, that's what I said too....
