whats your grail knife ?

Hinderer xm-18, 3.5" spanto flipped, black!!!!! I'll probably never be able to buy one at the secondary market prices, but hopefully someday I'll be able to trade for one. I offered somebody over a thousand dollars worth of traditional knives for his, but he wouldn't budge! Someday......

Folder= hinderer xm18 armor tip bowie but I will settle with a new production bowie
Fixed blade = my mind changes a lot on this one I want so many

I'm too lazy and like too many different things to devote myself to a lifelong quest in search of a holy grail. I suppose I would like to get my hands on Brad Southard AWT at some point, and I wouldn't kick a Rexford Singularity out of bed for eating crackers either.

I think the whole ludicrously expensive grail thing would be easier to get into if it weren't for the fact that I've actually had better luck with high-end production and mid-tech knives than I have with full customs.

My two grail knives, that one day I may buy. Both are under $1,000, but above $400. Anything beyond $400 is tough for me to use.

It's yet to be made, I keep recommending it as a suggestion for the NKCA to choose as a chosen knife. I want a Tuna Valley mother-of-pearl handled baby doctor's knife in a limited run of 250 pieces chosen as the 2015 NKCA Youth knife. That would definitely be a highlight of my NKCA collection.

I don't know if it's been made, but I want a Lambert Incinerator with blasted Ti bolsters and black G10 or CF scales.

I will help you find one. Unfortunately it is not for sale. Here is my Team Leader and Original SOG Bowie #454.

I had wanted a Dalton Holder knife from the first time I have seen one when I was a kid. Went to the NY knife show when I was twenty-something, 25 years ago. I stepped up to his table and saw the perfect knife on the table. He speaking to someone looking away from me, then he turned and with a smile picked up the one knife I picked as the best and handed it to me. As if to say, "I made this one for you." It was $250.00, the exact amount in my pocket. It came home with me and is my most cherished knife to this day. It is the top left in the picture.

I actually have mine in the mail on the way, it's a SURVIVE! GSO 4.1 in CPM-20V stainless, got a cool trick Godspeed Tactical kydex sheath, extra handles and tek lok on the way for it as well, super pumped to get hold of this bad boy, pretty sure chics will be fallin down at my feet when they see this thing latched on my side.:D:thumbup:

Don't know if it's a grail but I have an M390 Beast from Three Sisters Forge being made that is the last of the M390 run. Jim said no more will be made in that steel. I'm not into safe queens but I thought that was pretty cool.

I own one. S30V Large Regular Sebenza with double thumb lugs, 2006.

I own another. Microtech Socom Elite in S35VN, aluminum and carbon fiber, 2012.

I own third. The SYKW 1311.

My current grail is the Spyderco Farid K2.

I'm not worried about getting that one, same as the rest.

My grail is a pre-Benchmade Lone Wolf T1 with a rosewood handle. It's not the most unattainable grail, but it is a frustrating grail. They come up on ebay from time to time, but the price always ends up climbing over whatever I feel I can justify, even though that upper limit keeps climbing. When they were being made they were a hell of a bargain, but now they are selling for multiples of their original price.

I know the designer, Bill Harsey, and I really like his designs, but anything custom by him would be way out of my price range. Plus Bill usually designs for military applications, and I am not military (I'm an archaeologist, slightly different needs). So most of his knife designs are something I can appreciate, but have no real use for. Even with his Lone Wolf designs the T3` was way too big for my purposes, and since I have a Gerber Applegate Fairbairn Covert (also a Harsey design) I really don't need a T2 (though a T2 would be nice, especially with a micarta handle).

One of my favorite things about the T1 is that it is a tip down carry, because I like to carry in my back pocket. However after my most recent trip into the field I realized that a lot of the pants/shorts I wear in the field have flaps on the back, so I started thinking that maybe I should try getting used to front pocket carry. Harsey also designed the Fantoni HB01 and HB02. Those are very similar to the Lone Wolf T-series, except they are tip up carry.

So I broke down and just purchased a Fantoni HB02. I am still waiting for it to arrive. I decided that if I was going to pay the same price for a T1 as I would for an HB02 I might as well just get the HB02, since I think it is a slightly better knife (even though it is tip up carry).

But I still want a T1. Someday I will get my mitts on one.
