With all the awesome knives we see posted here every day, it makes you wonder just what exactly is out there in terms of rarities and oddities. Let's see some pictures of YOUR traditional "grail" or "white whale."

Bonus points if you identify the maker/model ;)

A Tony bose made wharncliff trapper in bone that he had dyed and jigged himself, made just for me. It was in the works, but just didn’t happen before he passed. So be it. Being recent friends with him and never having asked him to make me a knife was good enough. I may attain one one day (not at current market prices) or ask Reese to make it, but that one won’t ever happen. I’ve come to terms with it. And miss that old dude.

This bowie is my grail. About as close to perfect as a knife can be.

Shortly after joining BF in 2015, saw and wanted a Northwoods Indian River Jack ... made for Northwoods by Queen Cutlery. I wanted one in natural smooth bone. I was severely disappointed to find they were all sold out. Bone, stag ... ALL gone. I almost cried LOL. I wanted one bad. I knew it was against all odds, but I kept checking the Northwoods dealer site in hopes that by some miracle, an Indian River Jack would turn up. Lo and behold, within the week, one DID show up and it was EXACTLY the natural smooth bone I wanted. I suspect that apparently someone else DID NOT want it and returned it. I was in the right place at the right time to jump on the last, last one LOL. Don't really have a grail now but that was the first one, there were others and there will be more.

... and a picture I took just this year. Oil from my hands has discolored the natural bone to a degree ... but it's mine, all mine !!! :)

I'm sorry to hear that- I'll bet he was a very talented knifemaker and a great person.

I'm glad you were able to get your hands on the exact one you wanted- that's quite the stroke of luck! Great looking knife.

Reese Bose small single clip point trapper with an as-ground 440v blade and plain (non-fluted) bolsters. Cover material TBD - rag micarta, green canvas, or Remington jigged bone.

Thanks! He really was a fine gentleman, I came to learn. And a funny individual. I feel more privileged now to have actually known him than to own a hundred of his knives. I do have something tangible from him, not a custom knife, but it rides in the custom drawer since he rebuilt it. Still rather chat with him though. So many people where so much closer to him, I feel guilty when I talk about it. Sorry if I kinda went off the rails a bit. Lol
