what's your hunting knife

I have used so many different knives that it's hard to say. However lately it's been a Mora Stainless steel clipper for field dressing and my Buck-Lite folder for skinning and small game. I could get by fine with a folder if it's one that is easy to clean up.

My wife usually field dresses the big game so she can use whatever she likes. With my bum leg I have trouble getting down on the ground and even more trouble trying to get back up.

Most often carried?
An H.I. "Sarge."

This is one of the rotation:

Like an old Norwegian Puukko with pressed cork handle, about 5.5 blade, as well.

But there's a bunch. Funny, I could get by with the first I ever got, waaaay back in early adulthood, but I keep looking for that next knife. :)

Various, depending what I'd acquired most recently: CS Master Hunter, Marble's Campcraft, F1, Roselli erapukko, Dozier K2, Buck Special. Of them all, the Master Hunter is probably the best all-round hunting/skinning knife, IMHO, but any of them would do fine.

This will be my game cleaning knife

Razor sharp 52100 4" nessmuck blade w/green micarta handles, should handle all my cleaning/skinning needs, from rabbit to deer.

I'm still saving up for a Rogue(slowly),for a general camp knife.

I sure love puukkos. The new Cold Steel Sisu is a beauty. It's a remake of the Tapio Wirkkala puukko, designed in 1965. That would make a pisser hunting knife.

A Blackjack Woodsman (52100 takes a wicked edge!) (photos are actual size)

or maybe my new Busse BAD

or whatever I happen to be carrying. Last year I used my brand new Joel Bolden custom. The year before that, my Spyderco Native and Native III. Before that, a Fallkniven F1. And so on....

Good hunting,

Buck Vanguard.
Cold Steel Master Hunter.
Busse Active Duty.
Buck 110.
Swamp Rat Safari Skinner.

Those are some of my favorites.

Back when ATS34 first became the rage, Remington came out with a fixed blade that looked really nice to me. It has a 4" almost spear point blade that is quite wide but not too thick. It is probably my favorite and has worked well as a field dressing-skinning-boning knife on Deer/Antelope/Elk/Sheep/Caribou.

I have used this little custom 3-1/2" blade for deer the last few years (and a little folder). Light and quick to work with.

Since giving my 1095 version of the Small away to a friend, I have used this AUS-10 Small on both elk and deer. Though, not my first choice with elk.

My 4.25" Cliff Hunter (Idaho Knife Works) has been used on a number of elk, and my journal says one moose. Wonderful knife for larger game.

Gee I must have the simplest knife here, all I have is an Old Timer Sharp Finger I bought about 26 years ago for around 14 bucks. I also use another Oldtimer single blade liner lock folder but I forgot the model#. they work for me. Pat

Thanks for the picture, I knew the style, but didn't know about Fiddleback making them. Is the other a Koster Bushcraft?

No, the bushcrafter is from Rod Garcia, the Skookum Bush Tool (SBT)...the Koster bushcrafter is has a thinner profile and the SBT has the welded cap on the butt.

Second one from the right is a Koster Bushcrafter; fifth one from the right is the SBT:

Buck 102 most of the time. Have a Tops Carolina Skinner which I have not used with.

My "For Hunting Only" knife is this J.R. Cook (MS) forged hunter. Of all the knives I own, this one hones the sharpest. Almost too beautiful to be a user, but I do.

Quoddy,

That's a sweet looking knife, and the sheath looks just as good! Very nice....

Stay sharp,

Your other right.

When deer hunting I carry my Wyoming Knife. It is a specialty blade designed for field dressing. It doesn't replace any of my other EDC, it simply is added when I'm hunting. (Sorry, no pics).
