In general I try not...mmm at least I desire, not to have to many things. So having a small collection actually really appeals to me. To be able to enjoy each knife and not have any that are forgotten about.

A lot of people are really over the "if you could only keep #..." but I really enjoy them. It helps me think what i'd truly like to keep around longterm and think about whether a small # is realistic.

So my question is, what's your ideal number?
It might be more than you have, it might be less.

Mine is 7-8
3 fixed blades
2-3 folders
1 beater that is used for dirty takes
1 small fixed blade that sits in my small emergency kit.

What's yours?

That includes your Kitchen knives???

Don't know how many I need, except that it's more than I currently have.

Even if I don't consistently carry all of my knives, I use all of them as examples to myself and others as to what I like or don't like in a knife. Kind of like a mini-knife museum, except there is no sign saying "DO NOT TOUCH".

I am going to say below 50. A Walter Brend or two, a few Bob Terzuola's, a Timberline Custom, an R.J. Martin Devastator, a few Microtechs, a Mission Dive knife, an Imperial Dive knife, a few Spydercos, a couple of SAK's, a couple of Gerber Mark II's, a Hinderer XM-24, a Sebenza, and a few other miscellaneous things. I have about 275 to sell.

I don't like playing this game. Each person gets to choose the number for themselves but I suggest if you obsess over the number it takes away from your enjoyment of the hobby.
I have about 8 folders in my EDC rotation, plus a few others that I carry occasionally. I have maybe 25 or so fixed blades that I bought for collecting purposes only with no intention of using them. I've picked out 4 of them to serve as EDC blades but I don't use them very much. And then I have another 10 or 20 junk folders that I've accumulated over time. So I have lots that I could get rid of but I don't want to.
