In general I try not...mmm at least I desire, not to have to many things. So having a small collection actually really appeals to me. To be able to enjoy each knife and not have any that are forgotten about.

A lot of people are really over the "if you could only keep #..." but I really enjoy them. It helps me think what i'd truly like to keep around longterm and think about whether a small # is realistic.

So my question is, what's your ideal number?
It might be more than you have, it might be less.

Mine is 7-8
3 fixed blades
2-3 folders
1 beater that is used for dirty takes
1 small fixed blade that sits in my small emergency kit.

What's yours?

What’s with all this blasphemy and self limiting nonsense? Heck I wouldn’t even sleep well if that ever occurred to me. I would be seeking medical and mental help to find out what was wrong with me.

Nah, I admit I have more knives than I will ever use but I do use a fair amount of them. I’m gonna say I could get by with;
4 -fixed blades
6 -single blade folders
4 -stockman slip joints
1 - 12” froe
1 - machete
2 - leatherman multi tools

Any less than that and I would think I was in prison.

The "ideal" number?

Knives are easy to store, even iif kept in their original, perhaps unopened box. Stack them boxed on a closet shelf or toss them loose into a drawer. Easy to move around too if you keep a collection of every version of Schrade's stockman models . . .or Case or Camillus . . . .and put them in a collector's roll.

A small fortune in collectable or expensive user knives can be moved around in a brief case.

Buy as many knives as make you happy.

The limiting factor will be money: Money for groceries and rent, or something thoughtful and nice for the love of your life at Valentine's Day, birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. If you have children, the limit on the number of costly knives you can afford will drop off a cliff.

Wherever your heart is, thee will your treasure lie.

I disagree, friend the pants I wear most of the time (Engelbert Strauss Motion Ten) have about 17 pockets, one is even perfect for a Strongarm and it's sheath (sheath without any extras, just the plastic). These pants allow me to carry multiple knives, I'm thinking a folder in the right front pocket, one in the right back pocket, said Strongarm (that pocket is on the left pant leg), a SAK thrown loosely in the pockets above where the Strongarm would be and whatever I can fit on my belt as well

Realistically though, it will be a folder in the RFP and maybe a Leatherman on my belt, if I'm in the woods there'll also be a knife on my belt ^^

One knife I haven't seen anyone mention yet is the humble butter knife. You'd need one of those in your life. At least one
