What's your ideal number?

Probably less than I have. I've really come to narrow down my tastes over the years. Considering that, I have a ton of knives that I just don't care for anymore. Some really nice stuff too. They're just not my style anymore. I really need to start selling and trading more, but work kills so much of my time. I feel more like a knife hoarder than a collector sometimes.
 
Well, as an addict my favorite anything is MORE so you can figure it out.😉........

So in closing, my favorite. Is still MORE.......

But if I had to put a # on it....🤔.......around 100...
 
Not counting Kitchen Knives, nine:
* 2 Small CRK Sebenza 31s - Black micarta , drop point, one stainless one damascus
* 2 CRK Mnandi’s - Ebony and Boxwood, both damascus blades.
* 1 Grimsmo Rask - This is more if a collectable for me.
* 3 Fiddleback Forge fixed blades
* Bushfinger, Monarch, and EDK
* 1 SAK Compact
 
I fully admit I tend to over do whatever thing I have an interest in. So at the moment I have way more knives than I need, way more. I enjoy adding and culling them to the collection, seeing my likes and use change over time. If I was forced down to the absolute minimum number to get by.
It would be probably 14 folders so I could rotate my edc, a couple of fixed knives, a couple of SAKs, a couple multitools, 8 steak knives, 7 kitchen knives( a petty/paring, small and large Gyutos/chef's, a sujihiki/yanagiba/slicer, bread, utility, deba/westerndeba/ heavy knife).
 
My plan for this year is to cut down all my folders to #7 daily carries. Different one for each day of the week. I get anxiety trying to figure out what to daily carry from 60+ folders I own. Since I’m hopefully 5 years away from retirement, I fee like #7 is my number that I’d be happy with the rest of my life.

So far I know 3 of the 7 I’ll be keeping.

For fixed blades going to do the same thing after the folders are liquidated. That is probably for my 2026 goal:)
 
So, I'm using mostly two big knives in the kitchen and I'd like to have a smaller one for more delicate tasks and maybe including a cleaver in the future. So that's 4. Then I have two folders (large and small-ish) I'd very much like to keep, my Leatherman and a SAK (though I could live without the SAK) and then I'd like to have a small, middle and big fixed blade.

So I guess my number is 11. I like that number ^^
