What's your last knife purchase of the year (2023) ?

In today’s episode of, “Well… I’m a dumbass…”

The Magnacut RSK was delivered today, aaaand I promptly cut myself by being a moron.

Was checking it out and wanted to check the lockup/blade play, and held it in a stupid way, AND didn’t account for the fact that they oiled the blade. 🙄

About a 3/4 cm cut, fortunately didn’t cut anything important, but it’s probably going to put a damper on lifting for the next few days.

I’ve starred in a couple of those episodes myself unfortunately lol. You’re not alone sir, but I hate when that happens and definitely feel dumb.

Been there before. It's an easy mistake to make.

I came really close to skewering my thumb on a knife I was sharpening today. It was locked in my kme and I spun away in my office chair to check something, spun back and didn't pay attention to where my hands were. Good thing I had just started sharpening and not just finished, otherwise I definitely would have needed stitches.

I am glad you didn’t get cut worse. I hope you are otherwise happy with the blade.

Last year I cut myself so stupidly it was embarrassing (all in trying to save 5 minutes to remove an rubber impeller flap on a snowblower).

I cut myself in person at a knife store checking out a knife that the salesperson handed out of the case. So lame. At first I thought maybe it wouldn’t bleed, and I could just play it off. Then the faucet opened. The salesperson looked at me and said “it happens all the time” and promptly produced a bandage from under the counter. It was embarrassing to say the least.

This would be a great thread for you to start B bluemax_1 . There’s plenty of us that have these stories to share, and would be quite an entertaining one I’m sure.

ferider ferider , you starting a 2024 purchase thread now that you got the momentum rolling for us here?

Realized I never replied to this bit.

I like it a lot. I like the ambidextrous lock. Fit and finish is good. The action is smooth (and doesn’t require a learning curve, or practice 😅). I like the blade shape and profile, too (and it certainly was sharp 😂😂😂).

After the bleeding stopped, turns out the cut is actually over 1cm long, and a tad deeper than I thought, so I super glued it shut. I keep single use tubes of super glue, specifically for this purpose.

No effect on finger mobility etc. Doesn’t appear to have nicked a tendon (actually missed the main calluses, so it struck between the ring and little finger).

Being stubborn and smart (or dumb, depending on perspective), I reasoned that bench presses should be OK for my moratorium on lifting while the cut heals, as I’m pushing and there’s minimal contact and stress on the cut. No pain, and it didn’t reopen the cut 😁

Didn’t do the deadlifts that usually accompany the workout, though.

I am glad you could close it and no impairment. Also glad you like the knife!
Don’t be too stubborn with lifting while it heals. Super glue is great stuff. I use shoe-goo sometimes on areas that have stress since it is slightly flexible. Works similar to Dermabond which is outrageously expensive.
Stay safe!

Yep, Vetbond is also available. Not as strong as Dermabond, but not as expensive either. Thought I had some left. Never tried Shoe Goo.

Still good to keep some Dermabond, and skin staplers around, just in case (*** and it's a good idea to know when those are applicable, and when sutures are required).
