I couldn't resist buying this no. 46 (or 946SHA) today:

Nice! Hard to find those with pristine blades and full etch. Most went right to work and didn't remain very new looking long.

Thanks Codger. I was hoping you'd comment. I've been wanting to add an electrician knife and this was too good to pass up. It had a BIN for $100 but the seller took $90.

As you well know Stelth, we each set the value of a knife when we buy it or sell it.

These arrived today, a 154OT and a LB7. I picked them up for $32.49. Both were dull, the 154 was really dull and took some work. Both are razor sharp now. The LB7 had never been sharpened. I think I made out OK on these. I really like the 154!

just won this today. it will be my 7th Herman Williams lockback and i think might complete the set for me. it is a 51 OT and looks might fine if i do say so myself.

I've had a hankering for one of his knives for quite some time. It's one of those things where th availability and the funds just never seem to coincide. He has always done some fine work. And it is good to see him continue it. He must get a lot of enjoyment from his embelishments. I do from just seeing them. Post a "family portrait" of your Williams Schrades when you get a chance please?

as soon as it comes in i shall gather the throng and take a group photo. he enticed me further saying he has some gold enlays coming.

I received this knife yesterday and I am blown away! The quality is so excellent and it is in mint condition. It's like the seller had a time-machine. The ebay listing said it was pre-1955. Is there any way to nail down a more specific year of manufacture? The tang stamps on the spear and screwdriver both say:
SCHRADE
WALDEN
N.Y.

1946-1972. Look up dates regarding the featured business for further clues.

Or ask them directly: http://www.bartlettman.com/

Ask them though. They may have changed location and name and been established earlier. What I found was just a cursory search. Your knife likely would have had plastic covers at that late of date. the "2" in the address may be meaningful as well. It's just a starting point is all.

Schrade Walden N.Y. instead of Schrade Walden N.Y. U.S.A. on the stamp probably makes it closer to the 1946 year than 1972. More than likely there is no pattern stamp on the back of the master blade tang either. Correct?

I generally regard knives marked like this to be close to 1950 and after 1946, but it us hard to pinpoint the year.

Correct.

Thanks for your input. Is it known which year they stopped making wood covers and switched to delrin on the 204?

Well they stopped making the 204 all together after 1975 I believe. I'm not sure about the handle change.

Guys, I'm new to posting on the forum. Been collecting Schrades for some years, and have been reading through your old posts so as not to ask dumb questions. Finally got a piece that I just had to share. The President of the Northwest Knife Collectors club (where I write the newsletter) snagged this out of an estate for me last month. A Mint in Box 825 with paten pending etch and excellent plastic box with insert. The red foam pad is deteriorating , but that has to be just age. What really got me was noticing the red filling in the stainless stamping on the shield along with the red scent around the shield. Has anyone noticed this on other Schrades? Just love that india clip blade. Randy
