Whats your "Least" Carried or pocketed SAKs?

My least carried SAKs are the real big ones. The Victorinox Champion and SwissChamp and Wenger Tool Chest Plus and Matterhorn Original. I like to pull them out of the box and play with them every now and then, but I never carry and use them.

I rarely pocket carry a SAK with more than 3 layers. Sometimes a Huntsman goes with me into the woods. Mostly it's a 2 layer alox Victorinox SAK that's in my pocket. And there's a Midnight Manager on my keyring.

My sister is also a little bit into SAKs. She already had a pink Classic and about a month ago I bought her an olive green Classic that's on her keyring now, she treats her pink Classic as a treasure. She also has a blue SwissCard in her purse.

I'm going to buck the trend here and say that I do carry my Champ and Champion, often in my bag, sometimes in a belt pouch.

The one SAK that I have that almost never gets any pocket time is my Spartan. If I'm carrying a two layer SAK then I much prefer an 84mm one, so a Tourist, Tinker Small or Sportsman will always get picked up before the Spartan.

I carry the old standard red.

I was at a gun show and a lady had boxes of TSA confiscated knives, and a big box of them were sak's. She had the small 58mm's priced at 3 dollars each, or 2.50 for three, or 2 dollars for 5 or more. Most were in very good shape, needing only a cleaning with dish soap and warm water, so I bought a whole bunch as give aways, all red. I figure there's so many red ones around, I may as well stick with it. The better half carries a purple one, sister in law a blue translucent, and the rest of the family has all the colors of the rainbow. Every member of the family has a classic on the keyring.

Wow, thats such a great deal you got there! no such opportunity ever happened here... so i got to buy full price for all the SAKs i gave to my friends!hahahaah!

sorry to bother you, but i'm really curious for one more question... have you ever broke your classic and replace it or you do actually use the same one all over these years?

thanks jackknife ... you're such an inspiration in this forum!

No, I haver never broke a classic, and my current one has been on my keyring about 3 years. I give them away on occasion, if I see someone in need of a knife. I think of the classic as the Giddions Bible of knifedom.

If anyone couold break a classic, it would be Karen. It was my better half that made me a fan of them. I used to think the classic was sort of a joke, but the joke was on me. Karen got one, and for a whole year I watched her use and abuse it, and I'd wince watching her do things that I thought would tax a larger knife. Her classic goa little play in the SD nailfile blade from prying, but it never broke. It was after this I gave one a try, and carried out an experiment. For months I'd go for the classic first if I had a pocket kknife job come up, instead of my larger one. Just to see what it would handle.

At the end of many months, the list of things that were too much for the classic was a very short one. About 98% of the time, the classic did what I had to do. It fell short on food use because of the short blade, and of course in the woods it was a little bit small and light. But for most urban/suburban use, it did just fine.

Sometimes we can learn from watching our better half, of what is not needed.

But then, I watched my dad go through life with a Case peanut as his only pocket knife. He managed to do quite well.

hahaha! good to hear that jackknife! what a story! thanks alot for your replies...

my wife thinks that i wont need any large or thick saks, since she doing pretty well with the classicc i gave her many years ago... she challange me to only bring my red manager, but i just cant do it.... after almost 20years with just 84mm sportsman and lately tinker small, its hard to change habbit hehehe... i bought many other SAKs just for fun... (although i ALWAYS carry an alox classic in my wallet since its really slim and the scissor is very2 handy and the nailfile and screwdriver tip got some used... not to mention the very sharp small blade as a back up, but its the least used tool unless i dont bring any other knives - cant do without this loveable small classic)

when i was a kid, i barely afford to bought my own SAKs (its a STANDARD), and i really save alot for my second one (a pre hook climber with screwed scissor)... now that i can buy some SAKs without breaking a sweat, so i kind of "revenge" for my childhood miserry hehehe...

I don't carry my Cybertool ever, but it does stay in the truck glove compartment.

i'm with Gareth.I've been edc'ing a swiss champ for almost two years now.
Always in a pouch and i find for my needs,it is almost a perfect knife.

I got rid of a Tinker and rarely carry my Craftsman,or Wenger s557
I might have to try a classic though and see what all the fuss is about:

Rule of thumb - the bigger and wider and heavier= the less it gets carried and used.

I agree. I bought a Workchamp on a whim. Someday I gotta unload it, along with a few Benchmades I bought on a whim. Lesson learned: knives and whims don't mix! :)

Size matters when carrying a SAK. At work, it's been a Cadet 2 or now my Rambler. At home, it's usually a Soldier or Pioneer. The Cybertools, Camper, Explorer, OH Trekker are fun and handy around the house and yard, but they're just too big and awkward for comfortable edc.

I was pretty excited when I picked up my Alox Solo but I have found I tend to grab one with more functions for daily office type work. Lately it has been my Cadet because it does pretty much anything I need it for.
