What's your most expensive user??

I understand this completely, but think of the all the times you have eaten a meal out with someone and dropped a hundred or two hundred dollars and then crapped it out the next day. A good knife will last a lifetime and is almost a bargain in comparison.

you definitely have a point..you have me re-thinking going out to eat again EVER lol but you have a good point:thumbup:

I don't want to take credit where I don't deserve it, but did my mention of David McCallum as an evolved human in an Outer Limits episode inspire your new avatar? I love it in any event. Brainy.

The Steigerwalt is the most expensive knife I EDC. But I'd be remiss in not pointing out that I've got a couple of Sebenzas, a couple of William Henrys, and a few customs (Olson, Davis, and Laconico) that make it into my EDC rotation. And they too are worker bees. (The William Henrys are particularly effective on envelopes! ;) )

That's putting things bluntly. But yeah.... consider this. It does help to put things into perspective a little when you are hesitant to use what you consider to be an expensive knife. Believe me, I know the feeling.

Right now, my two most expensive users are a Dozier K-36 Personal and my Blackjack 125. I ordered a GEC Pioneer #23 (slippie) and I intend to use that knife. Still looking for the folder that is big enough to cut larger stuff and still be something I like and is affordable. I have been moving back to traditional knives for the last few years.

I really like the fancy customs, but I really hesitate to buy such because I know I will absolutely not use the knife. We'll see when the time comes if I buy such and how I feel about using it.

I felt the same way for a very long time. And then I came to the realization that life is too damn short not to get the best and use the best. Now I refuse to buy a knife I won't use. That was quite an about-face for me.

I'm not sure how much use a knife has to see to be classified as a "user", but I carry this Sebenza often(almost 6 months straight) and has seen some light use here and there.

I usually use this cheap Navy knife when I get down and dirty.

My current most expensive user is a custom shop Protech TR-3 Integrity. It's currently my most expensive folder and I just love it. It's everything I look for in a folder and it is the smoothest, most solid framelock I've owned or handled. This is the knife that proved to me that I don't need a Sebenza.

Pic is from the previous owner:

A great way to get over the fear of using an expensive knife is to get one gently used. The Integrity came with a mark on the lock side, not huge but enough to where it's no longer in new condition so I don't feel bad about carrying/using it.

Great Voorhies. Exactly what I have been looking for, as you can tell in my sig line :)

Thanks! Yeah its flawless. The brass is definitely unique and I'm a sucker for orange peel ti. It took me awhile to track down my perfect Voorhies but it was well worth the wait.

If you're on Facebook, follow his company page. He posts knives there but they go fast.

When I say "fancy custom", I'm talking about damascas blades with scroll work and other engraving. Just not something I would use.

The best advice I have heard about using what you might consider an expensive knife is... life is very short and the people that follow you will most likely not have the appreciation you have for the knife. It might end up on some flea market table or sold at a garge sale for next to nothing.

I've got a Q36 Overkill and XM24 that are part of my EDC rotation. Occasionally I'll bust out my custom Onion or Anso and carry them. They get used but on a more judicious level.

I use everything I've got, it's my way to enjoy knives. But I completely understand people who keep most of their collection pristine and use only one or two of their knives.

My most expensive user is a custom hunting knife, I payed $800 for it and it was worth every single penny. The two most expensive folders in my EDC rotation are a Sebenza and a custom slipjoint by Diego Atwell inspired on the knife that was found in George Mallory's remains on mount Everest.

These pictures are from the maker, it now has a nice patina after a few years of use:
