Whats your most useful slipjoint

The one in my pocket!

You got that right.
When circumstances call for a sharp bit of steel, any knife is welcome!
Every man Everybody should carry a pocketknife, or keep one close by.

For general purposes I just carry whatever looks best to me that day, but I think a two blade Clip/Pen or Clip/Coping combo runs a close second to a standard Stockman for out and out usefulness. The Stockman is the standard though, tough to beat without carrying one of them folding tool kits ;)

I'm in the Stockman group for most useful slipjoint. Size is up to you. Get one, and enjoy it's many uses.

I started a thread a while back asking what everyone's most useful blade shape was. I had in mind a Wharncliffe for a knife I'm going to have made for me. After reading input and giving consideration, I sure like the Zulu spear, or what's referred to as a modified Wharncliffe (parabolic shape on the spine, and gentle arc on the cutting edge). To be useful, a blade has a cutting edge and a tip. The tip has to be useful for picking slivers and penetrating things to be cut. The clip style blade can have a sharp tip if done right, but I don't care for the swoop on the spine from the line from the tang to get to a sharp tip, especially if a sharp point is left at the transition point on the spine between the two lines. T A Davidaon makes some clip points that look planned, with a rounded transition on the spine. All personal preference on the looks, but a useful blade is a must.

Another vote for the Remington R-4. Also love the Vic Farmer and Trekker.

555 makes a helpful distinction, and I seem to be with him on both blades-only (stockman) and otherwise (scout or Vic).
I carried an alox scout knife until the red wore off, and then carried a smaller celidor version until the corners of the handle crumbled off. Actually I stuffed epoxy-putty in the corners and kept carrying it.
Since it penetrated my scull that I can carry more than one knife, it's usually the biggest stockman I'm comfortable with, and the largest Vic SAK I'm comfortable with, plus the Vic executive on a snap-hook on my keychain. Probably only the exec and a pen-knife if I'm going formal.
One knife for everything everywhere, should that awful choice ever have to be made, possibly my newly discovered SwissBuck.

The Vic Farmer or Pioneer is hard to beat. But the Remington R-4 is equally awesome. Gotta love the spear and coping blade, plus all of the extra tool goodies.

Hard for me to quibble with the Farmer or R-4, Buzzbait. :) Just to add another slippie to the conversation, though, I'll go with my Great Eastern #25 baby Barlow -- right blades, right size.

Haha. Im still waiting on the rr peanut to see how i like it. Im leaning heavily toward a gec #66 calf roper jack. Or maybe a case pocketworn teardrop jack. Who knows? Both my birthday and chrismas are comming and i gotta give my girl some ideas;)

Fishcakes, between those two (Case Teardrop or GEC 66) I would definitely go with the 66 Calf Roper Jack.

Or maybe a case texas jack? Theres too manny freakin options!!!

Yes, that is the problem with traditional knives. There are quite a number of choices, most of them perfectly good choices. If you have a lot of money, it's not a problem, it's an opportunity. :D

Honestly, i prefer a drop point blade. i cant seem to find many slippies with em. But from a sheer utility standpoint, a clip point is pretty hard to beat, so maybe thats for the best

"The one in my pocket" of course. But that of course changes depending on the day. I have to say my Northwoods Broadway Jack (GEC) spends the most time in, (and out) of pocket. However my GEC Beer Scout sure is a handy little friend, not just for cracking a beer after a day of using the bad either. The screwdriver has been especially useful. I'm now waiting on a Northwoods Everyday Barlow, spear (Queen). It will displace the Broadway for an unknown length of time...Also I always have a SAK Vagabond on my keys and gets used countless times, usually the scissors or the screwdriver and of course the package opener.

Depends on what I am doing. I've been known to carry three different knives in one day, one at a time.
For working in the cube farm 7-5: Peanut.
For around the house in the evening: Case Teardrop.
For Saturday working in the yard: Some sort of stockman
Sunday go to meeting: something nice
Sunday afternoon: See Saturday.

I have been carrying two everyday, but in the last few days I have switched out one or both for others, on my days off of course when I'm at home. I've done this because I have so many I want to use but feel silly if I carry more than two. Usually I carry one long bladed lock, and one short bladed (multi bladed) slippie.

Actually this whole week has been a bit of an anomaly though. For some reason I caught myself pocketing my Farmer Lock and a PM2. Strange paring today for sure. No slippie. Oh wait, I did switch them both out for my SBJ late in the evening.

Might be the weather that can explain my odd carry habits of late, who knows.

As far as i can tell from reading these answers i am like most of us knife fans , i have a reasonable collection of knives, some French mostly American , GEC and Case Peanuts being my favorite , just now i have gone back to my SAKs and have rediscovered what great little knives they are. Now i am an old geezer i could probably carry any type of knife without fear of Stop and Search but the truth is my SAK Manager takes care of most of my daily tasks and a 84mm or 91mm handles the bigger jobs like breaking down cardboard boxes and some food prep and of course the other tools come handy. I dont doubt that one day i will get a hankering for one of my single bladed or more likely a Peanut, but isnt that what makes our hobby so great ?

Yer darn right!! That is what makes it great, that we can have a collection to draw on and change it up a bit as we feel the need to. As much as I love the peanuts, I like to carry a handy SAK now and then for the tools, or a stockman once i a while for the wider blade choice. You could get by eating a vegetarian diet, but a nice burger or steak is a great thing now and then. Sometimes needs and wants pull us in different directions. In truth, I can get by most days with a 58mm SAK, but it's just fun to carry something else too!:)
