What's your Near Perfect Knife?

I also prefer 3.25” blade and had the same just too small but just too large issue with the large and small sebenza.

For me right now: Rockstead Chi

best clip ever (even better than the ZT 0562) crazy awesome grind, smoot acton, great Steel. Just big enough and better ergos than the 0450 but not too big like a 0562 or large sebenza. Cuts for not day but years, gentleman classy but understated and plain almost tactical in all black.

I did really really like my shiro 95T in M390 as a close second but again just slightly too big for a practical EDC around town.

I've considered that more than once.
However, I have found that I really enjoy the blade geometry of the 531. The blade height of the Bugout is slightly taller than the 531 and I am not sure that I want to go in that direction.

I still own a Benchmade Volli which offers a taller blade. Love the knife but, I rarely carry it. I think it's because of how tall the blade is. Maybe I should sell the Volli and get the Bugout. It's worth a thought.

I can't help but feel that the Bugout is a cross between the 531 and Volli.

That cross sounds about right. I wanted to like the Volli because of the 3.25" blade but it just never felt right. I was kidding about selling the 531, but honestly if you rarely use the Volli that makes sense to sell it to fund a Bugout.

Another near perfect for me is the Mini Grip, love so much about it. The grip is just a little too small. This is my first Mini G, and one of my first "better" knives.

I'm beyond impressed and obsessed with the Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt. As close to perfection as I've ever come knife-wise. This thing is leaps and bounds ahead of anything I've handled before. And so gorgeous. Totally puts my Sebenzas to shame. S30V is fine but I'd prefer a blade of M390/204P/20CV. Aside from that , the Vallotton is perfect for me.

Initially my CRK Large Micarta Insingo comes to mind but these are arguably more perfect for different reasons

For me, it's hard to top the ZT0452. It's lightweight, durable, insanely sharp out of the box, and it looks stylish enough to be a "Gentleman's Folder". But Spyderco's Manix 2 or Gayle Bradley are in contention as well.

Just went into my local REI this afternoon and finally got to see a PE satin Bugout; this without First production markings. I am very impressed with this knife. Great blade grind, surprising balance for the weight, or lack of...and less than $120 with my member discount. I like buying from them as they backup what they sell, but most important I get to handle it, whether I want to buy or want to think about it. The Missus has a lot to say in this regard, but I've owned a lot of these over time and I trust her judgment. If I only buy one knife this year this will be the one!

Just get the knife. REI has a wonderful return policy.

I purchased my BM531 to use as a dress knife but found out very quickly it's lightweight and ergos made it a great EDC knife. From my limited experience with the Bugout, I have to say it is much better than the 531. With better ergonomics and superior steel, and lower price, the Bugout is the knife to beat!

I would not be surprised if Benchmade drops the 531 from the lineup because of the Bugout.

Resized_20180111_071728.jpeg This is my nearly perfect carry..

My pursuit of "The one".

All great contenders, actually starting to entertain the idea of a fixed for edc. Go figure..

Top contenders go to the manix 2 in cf, nudist F-95, and my newly re-ground Nirvana.

I carry my SAK/GEC/CRK daily with a dedicated primary of the day..

Always rotating and haven't found "The one" yet.

I think for me I would have to break it down into a few catagories for different uses and different sizes ... trying to use as few qualifiers as possible ... I'd say ...

1. small traditional - Alox SAK Farmer
2. an EDC for most overall uses - CRK Umnumzaan
3. small to medium fixed blade - Bradford Guardian 4 (might be replaced by Carother EDC2 when I get it)
4. hunting knife - Winkler II Hunting Knife
5. camping /woods knife - LT Wright GNS or Survive 5.1
6. butchering fixed blade Becker BK15 or BK5
7. chopper Becker BK9 or Esee Jungla

or in simplier terms ... I can't call any one knife near perfect ... without qualifing "perfect for this purpose" ... sorry I'm no help with this question. And I have already though of at least 2 more catagories I could add ... impossible to pick one for me.
