What's your position on a dick move?

For the record, I didn't mean "bring to a mods attention" as an attempt to influence the direction of the sale. I meant it as a way to note what Guy 1 did in case there is a future issue.

Playing a bit of devils advocate, but I went and looked at that thread just now and it doesn't (for me) show that the first guy edited his post. On my end it looks like he came in 1 minute ahead of you and the post doesn't say edited.
Again, I am not sure if posts will say "edited" for all members or just the OP.
I am not casting any blame or judgements either way.

Yeah, that's where I was going also but that's what madcap is saying. Maybe for the first 60 seconds or so after you post it won't indicate that it was edited because you see a small error and go fix it right away. Maybe Guy1 posted he'd take #1 and meant #3, he then (within the allotted amounts of time) changed it to #3 so it doesn't show an edit.

I agree though, doesn't look like malice just a misunderstanding.

BF is pretty good about weeding out the snakes, if he really is pulling crap he will get caught and called out on it.

Had I been the seller and he was actually pulling shenanigans I would refuse the sale. I think most here would.

Thanks for the input everyone. Unfortunately certain knives tend to sell extremely fast and that's why I brought this issue up. Hope it doesn't happen very often.

i noticed if i edit my posts quickly it doesn't show a edit message on the post. if i do it later on it shows it. i don't know how long before it shows on an edit, but done quickly it doesn't show it.

edit part....just edited quickly....

This being said, there's the very good chance that buyer #1 had posted, (1 minute before you as the time stamps indicate).

Realized his mistake and went in to edit his original post, during the same 1 minute period you were typing and posting yours, in which case he would not yet have seen your post while he was editing.

You posted, (while he was editing), and he posted the edited version at just around the same time, quick enough from his original post as to not create a "last edited" tag.

Sounds to me like all signs point to it being most likely just a simple error and harmless timing thing, no malice intended

yep. absolutley very plausible. could be exactly what happened.

It's not a big deal either way. If he purposely switched which knife he wants (why would he? Just to spite you? Seems unlikely...) then the seller would have the right to switch it. If the seller is considered at fault by you, again it's the seller's choice and you missed out. Personally I would try to stick to whoever posted first but if it's significantly in my favor I would change recipients, this is a marketplace after all. I wouldn't call it a dick move unless he already began proceedings with you (ie exchanged PP info, accepted money, etc.) and then decided not to sell to you. If it's a matter of timestamp then I have to say it's not a dick move.

Hmmm, yes, yes, agreed agreed. Mmmyyyees. But perhaps those betwixt the shadows and bane, a drabble of weary n woe...

I'm not upset about who got what in this case. My concern is that this might continue to happen in future sales posts. I wonder how long the gap for editing without an updated time stamp is?

I prefer PMs and emails for this reason. You can't go back and edit them. What was said was said and that's it.

That and I'd prefer to keep sales threads as clean as possible. Especially when multiple knives are for sale. I generally pass over sales threads with a bunch of replies as they're generally all spoken for, but every now and then you see one with 15 replies that are all either questions, negotiations or trade offers and nothing's actually been sold.
