Hi all! I'm planning to do a semi production run of fixed blade knives sometime in the near future and I'd like to get your input to help me figure things out. I don't have a knife design yet but it I want to make something that people will want to carry into the woods and have on their belt at all times. I want a practical, useful, utility type knife that you'd use more than any other knife. What blade length do you guys prefer? I'm starting a poll for this and I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

I think 4" is the perfect blade length for belt carry in the woods, I like 3" for EDC everywhere else. 4" still gives you enough blade to batton with but still small enough to make traps & food prep. This is just my .02

Agreed. Looking forward to the run, Ray.

4" +- 1/4" w/ zero choil for bush work. If hunting/skinning I look for a guard and a choil for choking up.

I suppose I'm in the minority preferring a 3.5" blade. Maybe it's my medium sized hands.
It is funny though, that I prefer a 4"+ blade on a folding knife, but a 3-4" blade on a fixed.

4.25 but keep the handle at minimum 4.5 with no choil. If it is comfortable it will get much more use and this size sits all my personnel needs from cleaning animals to any wood processing

I'll stick to the options you presented and say 4". I honestly will take a 3" with no problems but certainly do appreciate the added length for tougher chores.

I fancy a 6" for camp, but inyour parameters, I'll go 4". Oh, & if you're needing someone to test out said knife, I'll be happy to!!! :D

I couldn't find where to check 17".

I'm always carrying a 3 - 4" folder, so I'm looking for something heavier and at least 4" in a fixed blade. The FB I carry most often is 4 1/4" and 9/32" thick.

It seems so far that a lot of you guys like at least a 4" or larger blade for the woods. I was going to try to keep this knife smallish. I'd also like to sell it to those who carry a fixed blade in their daily life. Maybe I need to do two separate knives. One for wilderness EDC and another for urban EDC. I have a lot to think about! Thanks for all the votes so far. Keep them coming.

for an urban EDC 3" max.

For the woods...I like 16"-24" :D:foot:

But for combined woods/urban I like about a 3.75"

Out in the woods? I'm good with anything 5" - 9" and really prefer something more like 6"-7" blade length.

But I tend to carry multiple knives though.

One thing that I will throw out here. A three or three and a half incher is plenty as long as it has a full sized handle. So often I see shorter blades with three finger handles and they simply aren't up to the task.

Every day knife, 3.5" blade
Woods knife, 4"er
One thing Ive found I like Ray is a larger handle with smaller blade.
