What's your reaction to getting cut?

Personally, I'm very clumsy. I cut myself at least once a week, mainly with my balisong. I'm just wondering how you guys react when you feel that hot little sting from a cut now. I remember the first time I ever cut myself carving into a stick in boy scouts (the good days) and I was cutting towards myself... *slip, slice, OW* There goes the tip of my thumb. Now all I say is, crap, go find some toilet paper or a paper towel, wrap it up and it's good in about 30 minutes. What about you guys?

A lot of times when I cut myself I don't even feel it and I only realize the deed's been done once I see the blood. Soak up the blood, press it a for a minute or so and it's all good. Sharp knives FTW

bandaged a friend yesterday whom I was helping to move to a new place. He grabbed a stanley knife because he did not put it away correctly. Funny thing was that I warned a mechanic who was fixing something on my bike that same morning to put away his tools correctly..
The friend later said he panicked because of all the blood...lol, it was a relatively small cut but bled like hell.
I put pressure on it for 10 minutes with toilet paper and lifted his arm. The bleeding was still going on a little after that, then we used the only right solution: toilet paper and duct tape :) It stopped.
Luckily I took 2 first aid courses (regular and wilderness) and am always assertive in what I do, so the situation was dealt with pretty quickly.

(re)learned a couple of related things:
- Some, maybe most, people really are underprepared / have lost basic skills and therefore easily spooked. `in this case, he did not know how to handle a cut and had NO first aid stuff whatsoever. Therefore, it's good to know first aid, especially when you deal with knives regularly

- it's good to have skills that you will mostly never use, but that count in a situation.
- teach others to properly use tools
- never, ever panic, keep your calm, stay focused and act. Cry later.

My first reaction to an injury is usually like "Ah sh*t, this better not be expensive."

I tend to bleed and then may utter a few deleted expletives.

I managed to run a 3/32" engraver on a dremel tool through my finger the other day, it happened so quick it was in and out before I knew it. It was one of those "did I just do what I think I did" moments. I looked and saw what I expected and waited for the pain. I guess a billion RPM didn't let it tear much flesh because it barely bled and only hurt a couple of days later.

To answer your question: Whenever I smash or cut a finger, I don't look at it right away, swear at myself like a drunken sailor in my head (because it's usually from doing something stupid), and then check for damage. Panic kills, and superglue is your best friend.

I was 16 years old and went to Germany for a student exchange. Well, in Germany they eat bread rolls that you have to slice yourself with a very sharp serrated knife. I had never done it before, but this German lady insisted that I slice the bread rolls for breakfast. Mistake. First roll, I was holding my hand wrong and had no idea the knife would be so sharp (all the knives in my house back in the U.S. were dull as shit when I was growing up). First slice... swick... right through the roll and then right through my index finger right down to the bone. I freaked out and screamed. Eventually got patched up and all good, but man... I still shudder a little when I think about that moment.

Usualy I feel the cut .. it takes a few secs before the hurt regisers tho .. then I grab some tape , stop the leakage and keep doing whatever it was I was doing .
Antiseptics and stuff when I get back home .

i look at my finger and say ah crap did it again.... then just put some pressure on it..

one time i got bit by some serrations and that was freaking horrible.. only time i yelled from being cut.. :D

Cut myself badly a few times and just put pressure on it for at least 5 minutes, then take a look.

If it really need a hospital ,then I go.

Otherwise I always EDC bandades [ come in handy for passing out - often ].

Have a friend who is a Dr. and he has sewn me up a few times, worst was the artery in the left hand about a year and a half ago.

I generally notice the skin flap or blood before any pain, and that usually comes with sweat or grit getting in the cut.

I just put a bandaid on it and continue on with what I was doing. It has happened enough over the years that it is mostly just a minor inconvenience. One cool thing about that is my kids have learned that it's no big deal so when it happens to them they do the same thing.

I dont notice it untill later i see slices in my hands. Deep cuts i notice and i get mad cause its going to limit things i can do.

"Oh crap, what excuse am I going to make for playing with sharp objects."
Then get a band-aid.
