What's your reaction to getting cut?

I usually verbally recall a salty phrase or two from my USN days. I wash the cut and apply 'New Skin', an OTC antiseptic & surgical glue combo - usually two coats. As the years go by, my allergy to pain has worsened... so I don't get cut very often. A possible added datum is that I keep my knives sharp now, as almost every accident I've had involved a dull needs-heat-to-cut butter knife. Another concept - I keep 'me' out of the path of my knives! I still enjoy the odd salty phrase...

I bleed. And yell damn that hurt, followed by repeated use of expletives that my kid better not hear or I'll have a lot of fun explaining why he says them. Then I bleed more.

Depends on how bad the cut is. A small one....scream like a little girl and cry for momma. A bad one ...don't say much just grab a wad of paper towels and head to the emergency room, hopeing not to pass out from blood loss.

I have a deal with my sister. if I have to get stitches, she gets the knife I cut myself with. She is very proud of her small but very high quality knife collection.

I notice the blood before I even know that I've been cut, I assume because I keep my knives very sharp and I agree that getting cut by a serrated blade sucks but I only have a few. I always keep a good supply of Neosporin and fabric Band-Aid's on hand and that seems to work really well for me.

My first reaction to an injury is usually like "Ah sh*t, this better not be expensive."
FTW. I cut my finger almost down to the bone and I was more worried about how expensive it was going to be for stitches. I felt bad too because I bled all over the place. :(

most of my knives are crazy sharp so i dont really feel it much.

i think the worst one that i actually felt was from my esee4. that was the most pain i ever felt from a knife, extremely painful experience.

I usually am intensely embarrassed. I'm painstakingly careful with my edged tools, and usually am telling others how to use a knife safely. Even worse, when I cut myself it's usually on dumb things that shouldn't be able to cut you. Paper, cardboard, staples, and blister packaging are usually the culprits. :p

I agree with those who say embarrassed. It's also very frustrating. My usual concern is how much of my time I just lost dealing with the injury. My most recent misadventure felt like nothing at all when it happened, then when I washed it in the sink I got lightheaded and fell to my knees. I'm not sure if that was shock from the nerves or the sight of the blood, although that usually doesn't bother me.

well, my reaction is usually "WOW! I made this THAT sharp!?" then I bandage it up because they're usually quite deep.

Wait to see if its going to start bleeding, drop an F-bomb or two, then grab a paper towel and search for a bandaid

i dont really pay attention, unless i hit an artery then, but i havent done that yet (knock on wood)

The times I have been cut my reaction was always the same. "Damn, I just cut myself... please don't start gushing, please don't start gushing..."

When I cut myself, really cut myself, the first reaction is to drop the knife, clutch the area of the cut, usually hand/fingers, to push it together. Then to a sink I go to wash the blood, inspect the wound, decide whether I can repair it myself, or if I need "help" to repair, and from their I go get my knife and clean it up. My reactions are not something I have preplanned in any way. Just what naturally happens for me!

I don't know why, but I usually stick my hand in my pocket as my first reaction. I don't cut myself often with knives, but have had my fair share. I'm a machinist however and a lot of times I get sliced up with metal chips etc. My instant reaction is to hide it, then wiggle my fingers, then deal with it. I've done it since I was a child.
