What's your reaction to getting cut?

When I cut myself, really cut myself, the first reaction is to drop the knife, clutch the area of the cut, usually hand/fingers, to push it together. Then to a sink I go to wash the blood, inspect the wound, decide whether I can repair it myself, or if I need "help" to repair, and from their I go get my knife and clean it up. My reactions are not something I have preplanned in any way. Just what naturally happens for me!

exactly what i do, grasp the wound extremely hard. force of habit i guess.

My initial reaction is always "You f**king cretin". Thankfully, it's been several months (knock on wood).

First serious cut I got, I was about 11 or 12. I was carving a small duck out of a block of wood, was actually cutting away from myself but still managed to catch my thumb because of how I was holding the block. Deep cut. For a second I was in denial  then just calmly went inside the house (leaving drops of blood on the floor the entire way) and began rinsing it in the sink. I was perfectly prepared to just bandage it myself and chill out but my dad insisted on examining it to 'see if it needed stitches.' He even asked if I felt faint. :o lol. I didn't.

Nowadays I just get the frequent little nicks and slices that come with messing with knives regularly. Usually it's just "oh, stupid me" then just let it scab. :D

usually starts with vulgarities, then I show the wife (a RN)......if she says not bad, wash with anti-bacterial soap, then super glue......if she is freaked, off to the ER for stitches.

Super glue. My first reaction is to look around for it. Then...

1. Clean the wound in cold water with soap.
2. Dry skin.
3. Hold wound closed and
4. Brush with super glue.

Hold closed until dried. Done.

If it's deep or wide, then I get the needle and thread. And if it's arterial I go to the hospital.

I don't really get cut very badly often at all, only had to get stitches once. The last time I cut the tip of my finger down to the bone and it was kind of like the first time I got cut that bad, "Did I just cut myself or not? Feels like I smacked my finger... Oh wait, there's blood... Wow, there's a lot of blood," then I cup my hand under the finger to try to catch all of it on my way to the sink, see if I need stitches or not, etc. This last time I didn't have to get stitches, they glued it up instead, that was kinda nice...

It's kind of weird too because in both instances it was the same finger getting cut. I even have one cut intersecting the first one that I got trying to pry the trim off a door jam, so there's weird little 'X' on the knuckle with one straight line, and one jagged intersecting line because the other knife had a serrated edge. Didn't need stitches on that one though thankfully.

I don't really worry about minor cuts. Depending on what cut me sometimes I'll just let them scab over and move on, but at least washing your cuts out is a generally a good idea.

230grain,

I hated chips! I saw one guy let the chips on a drill press get too long and when he tried to knock them off with a wrench they whipped around and cut the hand he was holding with. He bled a lot... Also, burrs... It's like a paper cut but with the benefit of metal slivers. Woo hoo!

Depending on the severity: first I grab the toilet paper, then the hockey tape and finally the car keys if necessary.

Capitalized, thanks for the super glue tip. I'm gonna use that. Not a day goes by that I dont bleed. It's part of being a mechanic, I guess.

When I was an apprentice butcher/meat cutter, I think the first 6 months was a daily occurrence.
30 some years later, I'd crab a cloth butchers apron wrap up the hand and keep working.:p

I like my meat seasoned with human blood. :)

Seriously, the last time I really got cut. I wasn't paying attention rooting through one of my tool boxes and grabed a thing meant to cut hoses. Sort of like one of those TV cutters. I bled for a good hour. It was a razor blade cut and deep. I probably said a few choice words when it happened about my stupidity and not paying attention (aka deserved it, sort of.). But I wanted to cry like a little girl.... not really.
