Whats your road trip knife ?

If I'm in a car: Folder on me, fixed and SAK in my bag.
If I'm on my bike with a pack: Folder on me, fixed and SAK in my bag.
If I'm on my bike w/o a pack: Folder on me.

Same here.

The SAK is almost always a Victornix Tinker, although I'm almost ready to justify the weight increase and start carrying my Leatherman TTi.

The Fixed blade is usually a Bark River Bravo 1, because I don't want to pack an axe but want to be able to build a shelter in an emergency.

Folder is usually a Spyderco Para 2, which is perfect for 99.9% of cutting jobs.

Since words are boring:

ZT 0360 skd, I like having the carbide tip just in case.

If it's on my Harley I usually carry a broadsword across the back or an ax. People don't tailgate as bad then.

If I'm going to San Antonio I may just have a fixed blade in the truck since lockback folders are illegal to carry in Bexar Co.

It would depend on...

1. Where I am going?
2. What states am I going through?
3. Am I leaving the country?
4. How long will I be gone?
5. Is it my only knife?
6. What will the weather be like?

so on and so forth..

I agree. I assume the folder in my pocket does not count. The scrapper 5 in my backpack is maybe the answer but my truck also has a machete and a hatchet in it all the time. Too many variables

I forgot I also carry a leatherman mut on my backpack.

Depending on where I'm going. Usually one of these three, benchmade 556, spyderco native, or spyderco dragonfly.

I don't just carry a knife, I carry a system... and, at the minimum, something like this:

But, more likely something like this, but with a Bravo-1 and LM Wave in my bag, and a Mora Companion, BK-7, 2 axes and a bow-saw in my trunk (if I'm driving):

Car trip, I'm going comfortable. Usually put my stuff in a backpack, and wrap a few blades in cloth. Leatherman sidekick, the Spyderco Manix 2, and Benchmade Griptilian usually come.

IMO, I think that the OP probably meant a car (?) trip...which is the most likely or most common road-trip. Extending that premise, I suggest that there are concerns about passing through various "knife-nasty" states or municipalities...i.e. NYC, NEW YORK state, Chicago, Philly, where common-sense self-defense by law-abiding folks is frowned upon.
That means a knife with a short blade and a strong detent may be an option. Not certain about pocket-clips and what defines a "concealed" weapon. The Spyderco Chicago may be a good choice. Good question, OP.

Hey jill jackson. I am a KLR rider! Same color scheme 2004

Almost all my road trips are on my KLR. I buckle a fanny pack around my sleeping bag, Leatherman PST 2 inside fanny pack. Buck 309 Companion in right front pocket. Delica 3 clipped inside left boot. Victorinox red Classic in back pocket (trim my mustache).

My Delica 3 is OD green and matches the OD green of my Vietnam jungle boots (OD green canvas tops) The Delica is easily accessed, never noticed. regards Henry

So ill be taking a road trip here soon, and I was think which blade do I want to take with me. So i'd figure if you guys were taking a road trip or even extended road tri what blade would you take ? Either fixed or folding is fine just curious about you guy's answers

Toss a hatchet or hawk into the trunk.

Last October and November the better half and I did a 5 week road trip across country and back. Left maryland, stopped off to see relatives in Georga, Texas, and California. Camped out in New Mexico, and Hiked in several places. These two did everything I needed from a knife to include preparing dinner out in the middle of nowhere.

This is the second Buck 102 I've had, got it in 2000. My last one served from 1969 to 1999, and was pretty worn.

I travel a lot around my country, I usually carry one folder and a SAK on myself, a large multitool and a fixed blade in my backpack. I'm usually in charge of wrestling and muay thai teams of 10-20 people and there's always stuff that needs fixing (both on the road and at the places we stay), packages to open, food to prepare.

The knives themselves change often, but I tend to choose large folders that will still fit nicely in the different types of pants I've got to wear. On my last two trips my main folders were a ZT 0300 and a Paramilitary 2 (I had to wear light sweatpants during a competition). The SAK I bring is usually a Farmer, Climber or Huntsman (or Wenger equivalents). Multitool is normally a Charge Tti, SwissTool Spirit or ST300. Fixed blade is something like a Mora, F1 or one of my customs. If we're moving through rough terrain, a Becker Machax or BK-9 instead of a smaller fixed blade.

It sounds like a lot, but I just carry the folder and SAK on my person. The rest stays in my pack or in the car (and I do use it all!).

If I am doing a short weekend trip to visit family I will carry a "hard use" folder AND a multitool such as a Leatherman Charge.

If I am traveling on vacation I will check the laws for my destination. Sometimes I can carry a normal folder, sometimes I can't. For some trips I carry an old Leatherman ST because it is not threatening. I can call it a tool, and it has a blade that is not one-hand opening and doesn't lock.

I just got back from a short road trip.

In my SUV is always a Boker Pry-Mate and ESEE 5. In my car is a cold steel mini lawman and a Ka-Bar (in my GHB in the trunk) and a gerber mini covert spring assisted in the center console. We take the SUV on road trips. When driving, I always carry a medium folder in my pocket, most recently it's a ZT 0350 (replaced the Griptilian I carried for years). I also normally have a smaller knife for EDC at my destination. This trip it was a small sbenza. In the cooler/picinic bag is an Opinel (#8 I think). In my suitcase/backpack is a leatherman micra and sometimes a larger multi-tool like the Wave.

If I'm flying and checking a bag I always bring the leatherman micra and sometimes a small SAK.

generally pack a small fixed, generally one i dont get to EDC that often, a Leatherman or SAK, and the one in my pocket usually a Rat 1, BM Grip machted with a Spyderco ladybug or grass hopper, or my new fav EDC Burchtree V2 combo-ed with an Opinel No6
